Oil and gas are the most important non-renewable sources of energy. Exploring, producing and managing these resources in compliance with HSE standards are challenging tasks. New technologies, workflows and procedures have to be implemented. This book deals with some of these themes and describes some of the advanced technologies related to the oil and gas industry from HSE to field management issues. Some new technologies for geo-modeling, transient well testing and digital rock physics are also introduced. There are many more technical topics to be addressed in future books.

Coconut oil is also known to be as one of the healthiest
oils one can consume. Research has shown the various
health benefits of coconut oil. Now-a-days, one can
also see the rising popularity of virgin coconut oil.
Virgin coconut oil is used in various ways and as an
important ingredient in cosmetics to food supplements.
This monograph (a preferable term here to ‘book’, I believe) was conceived after I had done a good deal
of broadcasting, within the UK and internationally, on the Gulf Coast oil spill. Time is always limited in a
broadcast, and facts and valid perspectives need to be got across succinctly to the exclusion of shallow
comments which hardly leave a viewer or listener any better informed. I like to go to a broadcast having
made a few jottings from news sources which as well as being possible material for the broadcast have
attuned my mind to the topic shortly before I go on air....
The health-promoting effects attributed to olive oil, and the development of the olive oil industry have intensified the quest for new information, stimulating wide areas of research. This book is a source of recently accumulated information. It covers a broad range of topics from chemistry, technology, and quality assessment, to bioavailability and function of important molecules, recovery of bioactive compounds, preparation of olive oil-based functional products, and identification of novel pharmacological targets for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases....
Worldwide, crude oil demand is unceasingly increasing. As a response, Enhanced Oil
Recovery (EOR) processes have re‐gained interest from the research and development
phases to the oilfield EOR implementation stage. This renewed interest has been also
furthered by the current high oil price environment, the maturation of oilfields
worldwide, and few new‐well discoveries. Concurrently, environmental concerns and
public pressure related to crude oil pollution control and remediation of oilcontaminated
sites are becoming greater than ever....
The search for oil occurs in geological sediments, as opposed to volcanic rocks. Several
processes are involved in the creation of sediments. First, the inland continental volcanic rock is
continuously being weakened and eroded by weathering processes (mechanical (through water,
ice and wind) and chemical erosion). Secondly and simultaneously, the eroded material is being
transported by water, ice and wind and gradually the material may be broken down into smaller
pieces (from boulders to gravel, to sand, to silt and finally to clay).
In the early 1970s, it was clear that the world economy was facing recession and that
the four-fold increase in crude-oil prices by OPEC, a monetary crisis, and inflation
were the main reasons for such a trend. The four-fold increase in crude-oil prices
in 1974, which was intensified in 1979, is why 1974 and 1979 are called the years
of “the first” and “the second crude-oil shock”, respectively. Increases in crude-oil
prices had an effect on all importing countries, more precisely on their economic
Exploring for oil and gas Traps is one of the main aim of the “Crude Oil Exploration in
the World” which represents an important part of the Treatise of Petroleum Geology
and Geochemistry in the world.
We have chosen eleven distinguished papers from the entire submitted researches
around the world in the field of oil and gas exploration and environmental application
from the world. These researches represent a guide to the petroleum geologists and
geochemists all over the world.
Developing a book of any magnitude requires time away from family
and friends, so as we finish this one, we must confess that despite the
obvious intellectual and personal satisfactions we enjoyed while writing
this book, it was not always a pleasant experience. The book’s contents
are for the most part the result of scribbling on napkins over numerous
macchiati and espressos away from the office at different posts over
the years. As researchers and consultants, perhaps our most creative
moments arose during lengthy informal, and somewhat dreamy, discussions
about enhanced oil recovery.
The essential oil industry is under threat from numerous issues at present. Rising
agricultural input costs, particularly petrochemical based fertilizers and fuels are squeezing
farmers’ profit margins. Rising food prices and the increasing value of housing and industrial
land prices is creating competition for land, particularly around populated areas. Adverse
weather conditions and changing climate are creating both short and long term problems.
Poor crop yields are occurring much more regularly than before because of unusually heavy
rain, hail, floods, heat-waves and cold snaps....

Major oil spills attract the attention of the public and the media. In recent years,
this attention has created a global awareness of the risks of oil spills and the damage
they do to the environment. However, oil is a necessity in our industrial society, and
a major sustainer of our lifestyle. Most of the energy used in Canada and the United
States is for transportation that runs on oil and petroleum products. According to
trends in energy usage, this is not likely to decrease much in the future.

Edible oils are mainly vegetable oils which have been subjected to several
processes to removed undesirable constituents. In order to make them suitable for
human consumption, most edible oils are subjected to refining processes, such as
neutralization, bleaching and deodorization. Among edible oils, only virgin olive
oil (a natural juice obtained by olive pressing), can be consumed without refining.
Edible oils are characterized by a wide range of physical and chemical prop-erties, since their composition depend on the type of oil (Rossell1991).
The olive (Olea europaea) is increasingly recognized as a crop of great economic and health importance world-wide. Olive growing in Italy is very important, but there is still a high degree of confusion regarding the genetic identity of cultivars. This book is a source of recently accumulated information on olive trees and on olive oil industry.
