Volume 41 of the Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths adds four chapters to the series: two focus on nanoscale rareearth mate rials, while the other two are concerned with divergent topics—the arrangement of the rareearth elements in the periodic table, and the higher order rareearth chalogenide compounds with the elements of the 14th group and also In. The first chapter (248) discusses the various proposals suggested for the location of the rareearth elements in the periodic table from the time of Mendeleev to the present day.

The first chapter (236) in this volume of the Handbook on the Physics and Chem istry of Rare Earth is a recapitulation of the scientific achievements and contri butions made by the late Professor LeRoy Eyring (1919–2005) to the science of the lanthanide oxides in which the lanthanide element has a valence equal to or greater than three. Although LeRoy had a broad range of interests in the chemistry of the rare earths and actinides the main focus of his outstanding scientific career was concerned with the lanthanide higher oxides. This chapter was written by Dr.

This Volume contains both the invited lectures and the contributions to the Workshop on The Physics of Excited Nucleons (NSTAR 2001), which was held at the Johannes GutenbergUniversitat Mainz, March 710, 2001. The origin of this workshop series goes back to the conference on Excited Baryons, which was initiated and organized by our late friend Nimai Mukhopadhyay and his colleagues at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1988.

This paper pro poses two ideas for adapting standard kinematic techniques to situations that do not naturally allow for the constraint of a fixed baseline. The first calls for extracting the information needed to resolve the integer ambiguity from the very data collected while the kinematic survey is in progress. The second idea addresses the use of the antenna exchange technique for mobile platforms where the original locations of the antennas are not likely to remain stationary during the physical exchange.

On the Oscillation, the Convergence, and the Boundedness of Solutions for a Neutral Difference Equation In this paper, the oscillation, convergence and boundedness for neutral difference equations $$\Delta(x_n + \delta_nx_{n\tau}) + \sum_{i = 1}^r\alpha_i(n)F(x_{nm_i})=0, \quad n = 0, 1, \cdots$$ are investigated. Keywork: Neutral difference equation, oscillation, nonoscillation, convergence, boundedness.

The stability problem of thin triangular plates by the small elastoplastic deformation theory, was studied in [3]. Basing on the theory of elastoplastic processes, this problem again has been investigated in [4] with incompressible material. In this paper we continue to study the mentioned problem with compressible material. The relation for determining critical forces is established. In particular the explicit expression of the critical force for the linear hardening material is found. Some numerical calculations have been given and discussed. ...

The problem about periodic solutions for the family of linear differential equation $$ L u\equiv \left(\frac{\partial}{i\partial t} a\Delta \right)u(x,t)=\nu G(uf)$$ is considered on the multidimensional sphere $x \in S^n$ under the periodicity condition $u_{t=0}=u_{t=b}$ and $\int_{S^n}u(x,t)dx=0.$ Here $a$ is given real, $\nu$ is a fixed complex number, $ G u(x,t) $ is a linear integral operator, and $\Delta$ is the Laplace operator on $S^n.

Bremsstrahlung energy spectrum from thin W target produced by 15 MeV incident electrons was determined by a combination of measurements and theoretical calculation. The shape of spectrum was calculated by MonteCarlo method using the code EGS4. The photon flux measurements were performed based on the activation technique using the high pure metallic foils. The radioactivities of the irradiated foils were measured by using a gamma spectrometer with a high energy resolution HPGe detector.

We present the percolationtheory model for explanation of conductivity of perovskites based on the scaling property of grain boundary formation. Assuming a twolayer simple effective medium model, composed of the grain itself as a first layer and the boundary as a second layer, it was modeled that the net resistivity r of the medium depends on the average grain size L, boundary thickness L’ and boundary fractal dimension D.

The nonlinear absorption of a strong electromagnetic wave caused by confined electrons in cylindrical quantum wires is theoretically studied by using the quantum kinetic equation for electrons. The problem is considered in the case electronacoustic phonon scattering. Analytic expressions for the dependence of the nonlinear absorption coefficient of a strong electromagnetic wave by confined electrons in rectangular quantum wires on the temperature T are obtained.

In this paper we study the extending of the Matheron theorem for general topological spaces. We also show some examples about the spaces F such that the missandhit topology on those spaces are unseparated or nonHausdorff. 1. Introduction The Choquet theorem (see [1, 2]) plays very importance role in theory of random sets. The proof of this theorem is based on the Matheron theorem and especially, the locally compact property of the space F , where F is a space of all close subsets of a given space E and F is equipped with the missandhit topology (see [1]). ...

Among spinel ferrites, Cd and Zn ferrites are always normal ferrites with Cd and Zn ions locating only in tetrahedral sites. This study presents effect of Zn on the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of the mixed spinel ferrites Ni1xZnxFe2O4 (x = 0.60, 0.65, 0.70, 0.75). The presence of Zn affects lattice parameters, saturation magnetization Ms, Curie temperature, Tc, and magnetic entropy change ∆Sm. At highest Zn content, Tc reduces to the temperature lower than room temperature and magnetic structure of spins in the octahedral sublattice should be strongly canted. ...

I began my training in the martial arts over fourteen years ago in the little town of Alexandria, Louisiana. From the first I was interested in weapons, but I had great difficulty in finding any but a handful of people who knew anything about weapons. For many years I was only able to acquire little bits of weapons training from various teachers here and there. I tried to learn all that I could from books, but found that the number of books on weapons is almost as short in supply as the number of instructors with a knowledge of weapons. I also found that most of...

Rather than focusing on earlier treatments, based largely on the simplifications of geometrical acoustics, Physical Principles of Medical Ultrasonics examines concepts of wave acoustics, introducing them in the very first chapter. Practical implications of these concepts are explored, first the generation and nature of acoustic fields, and then their formal descriptions and measurement. Real tissues attenuate and scatter ultrasound in ways that have interesting relationships to their physical chemistry, and the book includes coverage of these topics.
