Unfortunately there is a lack of effective data management
tools that can help users in managing such data and in ap-
plying models, forcing them to use external tools for this
purpose. Scientists, for instance, typically import the raw
data into an analysis package such as Matlab, where they
apply various models to the data. Once the data has been
filtered, they typically process it further using customized
programs that are often quite similar to database queries
Topic 11 - Fixed income portfolio optimization. After completing this topic, you should be able to: Manage the interest rate risk of fixed income portfolios; compute portfolio value, income, duration, convexity compute effective duration; optimize liabilities funding (pension) using duration and convexity; optimize fixed income portfolios using duration and convexity.
HEIs that pass the audit receive a quality label and are added to the register
of audited institutions maintained on FINHEEC’s website. The quality label
is valid for six years from the Evaluation Council’s meeting at which the audit
decision was made. The audit certificate related to the quality label explains
whether the audit was carried out by a Finnish or an international audit team,
provides a summary of the key findings and describes the optional audit
Furthermore, Americans have gotten more sophisticated about food and have learned
their fair share about wine. These days, wine tastings take place at the local liquor store,
and comprehensive classes can be had at community colleges and universities,
democratizing a formerly elite subject (Malone, 2003). In the past, diners were at the
mercy of the sommelier, now they read books like “Wine for Dummies” and make
authoritative choices on their own.
Interest income is the most important source of revenue for most of the
banks. The aim of this paper is to assess the impact of dierent interest rate
scenarios on the banks' interest income. As we do not know the interest rate
sensitivity of real banks, we construct for each bank a portfolio with a similar
composition of its assets and liabilities, called 'tracking bank'. We evaluate the
eect of 260 historical interest rate shocks on the tracking banks of German
savings banks and cooperative banks.
An integrated approach among the local, State, and Federal Government provides for a
logical clearinghouse for intelligence on the movement and activities of terrorist groups and
the collection, interpretation, and dissemination of that information to the proper
enforcement agencies. Effective planning and intelligence gathering can lessen the
likelihood of a surprise emergency incident, which, improperly handled, can make or break a
department and its administrators at all levels of government.
The European microfinance market is characterized by varying legal and regulatory frameworks,
different economic realities, differing political philosophies towards socio-economic activity, and
different financial sector structures (and history).
Banks are subject to comprehensive regulation,
even though local differences exist given that EU directives may not have been fully transposed
into national law. In some European countries, only regulated banks may engage in micro-
lending. Non-banks are typically not subject to banking regulation.
This tight agenda introduced many difficulties, in particular because it did not take
into account the fact that most administrative offices at LP and PP premises and most
researchers involved in the project were not available during the summer period (15
July until end of August).
ii) The timing between the launching of the ESPON 2013 DataBase and the start of
other ESPON projects is too short: other ESPON projects selected under Priority 1 were
also launched in July, i.e. less than one or two weeks after the beginning of the ESPON
2013 DB project. As a result, the...
The IASB issued IFRS 4 in March 2004 to provide interim guidance on
accounting for insurance contracts. The Standard is the result of the first
phase (phase I) of the IASB's project to develop an accounting standard
to address the many complex and conceptual problems in insurance
accounting. Before introduction of the Standard, IFRSs did not address
specific insurance issues, while certain IFRSs specifically excluded
insurance business. This resulted in diversity in the accounting practices
Hundreds of internet leaders, activists, builders and commentators were asked about the
effect of the internet on social, political and economic life in the year 2020. The views of
the 742 respondents who completed this survey were varied; there is general agreement
about how technology might evolve, but there is less agreement among these respondents
about the impact of this evolution.
Reacting to several scenarios constructed by the Pew Internet & American Life Project,
the respondents struck on several themes and emergent problems in their answers:
Given all these changes, we think itmakes sense to speak of an evolution for Hollywood
film, one that increasingly makes presentational aspects of film either closer to what we
perceive in the natural world (color, surrounding sound, enlarged images, etc) or aspects that
capitalize on what has been discovered to be perceptually and cognitively acceptable (cuts,
shot-reverse-shot composition and point-of-view editing, the optics of cameramovements
without feedback fromeyemovements, etc).
The rest of the paper is organized as follows. Section 2 evaluates the situation of
German banks in terms of capitalization. In section 3, bad bank solutions of the past are
studied and prerequisites for success are examined. Section 4 develops a classification
scheme for existing and planned bad bank solutions. We develop in Section 5 the
efficient design for a public bad bank. Section 6 evaluates the German Government’s bad
bank proposal. Section 7 concludes. Two simple numeric examples illustrate the working
of both bad bank plans in the Appendices. ...
A source of airborne particulate matter that cannot be neglected is the injection of windblown natural dust
into the atmosphere in sand and dust storms common during windy conditions in the world’s deserts. In
the northwestern Mediterranean region, the input of Saharan material, known locally as red rains, has
been estimated as 3.9 million of tonnes each year . In some parts of the Mediterranean basin, it is
thought that this makes a substantial contribution to local airborne particulate matter.
The Act also allows States to apply to the Secretary to implement a program for regulating organic products produced and handled within that State. The State must have noncompliance, mediation, and appeal procedures that meet NOP regulations to become a State Organic Program (SOP). If approved, the SOP is responsible for the enforcement of NOP regulations within the State. SOPs may also contain more restrictive requirements because of environmental conditions or the necessity for specific production or handling practices particular to that State.
The Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) follows on from the Implementation Schedule and provides the detail
behind each key activity showing tasks, deliverables and allocated resources including staff. WBSs vary
depending on the complexity and type of project undertaken. There is no single format that must be adopted,
as long as there is a clear line of sight between the Implementation Schedule, scope and WBS. For complex
projects, a WBS will extend over many pages.
China is known for its large population, vast territory, and rich natural resources. China has a
population of more than 1.1 billion, an area of 9.6 million square kilometres, and identified
reserves of 150 different minerals.
The Chinese economy has been growing steadily since 1949, and especially in recent
decades, the implementation of economic reform and the adoption of an "open door" policy
have exercised a great influence on Chinese economic development. China's GNP has grown
from about RBM 360 billion in 1978 to nearly RBM 1,800 billion in 1990, a five-fold
Perhaps even more important than barriers of physical access and eligibility are
barriers of affordability. These issues seem to be particularly important in Latin
America and the Caribbean, where 40 percent of non-account-holders report that
formal accounts are too expensive. Worldwide, reducing withdrawal charges and
balance fees could make formal accounts more attractive to more than 500 million
adults who are without one. Again, these statements are meant to be indicative,
not causal, and further analysis is required.
Although MECS data report that coal supplied only 10 percent of the pulp and paper industry’s
energy requirements in 2002, NEI data show coal as contributing to 43 percent of the sector’s
energy-related CAP emissions. As MECS reports more than 50 percent of the sector’s energy
coming from “other” fuels (which includes biomass), NEI data show that biomass (wood waste)
is a less emissions-intensive energy source than coal. For wood products, combustion of
wood/bark waste is the dominant energy-related source of CAP emissions.
