theory research spans many decades and draws on several rich traditions,
theoretical limitations have kept it from generating consistent and interpretable
empirical findings and from reaching consensus concerning the
nature of key relationships.

The NIMS provides a set of standardized organizational structures—such as the Incident
Command System (ICS), multi-agency coordination systems, and public information
systems—as well as requirements for processes, procedures, and systems designed to
improve interoperability among jurisdictions and disciplines in various areas, to include:
training; resource management; personnel qualification and certification; equipment
certification; communications and information management; technology support; and
continuous system improvement.

Conferences on the topic of traditional medicine were hosted across North America,
including New Mexico, Arizona, British Columbia, and Washington. These were key
opportunities to attend conferences that yielded a great deal of information on the subject
of traditional medicine. The resultant discussions raised themes that ranged from
government policy to contemporary implementations of strategies used by both healers and
Indigenous medical practitioners.
