This textbook provides study materials for the participants of the course named
Multivariate Analysis of Ecological Data that we teach at our university for the third
year. Material provided here should serve both for the introductory and the advanced
versions of the course. We admit that some parts of the text would profit from further
polishing, they are quite rough but we hope in further improvement of this text.
The numerical treatment of partial differential equations is, by itself, a vast subject. Partial differential equations are at the heart of many, if not most, computer analyses or simulations of continuous physical systems, such as ﬂuids, electromagnetic ﬁelds, the human body, and so on.
Chunk parsing has focused on the recognition of partial constituent structures at the level of individual chunks. Little attention has been paid to the question of how such partial analyses can be combined into larger structures for complete utterances. Such larger structures are not only desirable for a deeper syntactic analysis. They also constitute a necessary prerequisite for assigning function-argument structure.
We describe the design and function of a robust processing component which is being developed for the Verbmobil speech translation system. Its task consists of collecting partial analyses of an input utterance produced by three parsers and attempting to combine them into more meaningful, larger units.
We describe a novel method for coping with ungrammatical input based on the use of chart-like data structures, which permit anytime processing. Priority is given to deep syntactic analysis. Should this fail, the best partial analyses are selected, according to a shortest-paths algorithm, and assembled in a robust processing phase. The m e t h o d has been applied in a speech translation project with large HPSG grammars.

As part of the Administration’s long-term strategy, the EPA is implementing a Sustainable Water
Infrastructure Policy that focuses on working with states and communities to enhance technical,
managerial and financial capacity. Important to the enhanced technical capacity will be
alternatives analyses to expand "green infrastructure" options and their multiple benefits.
In this paper a bidirectional parser for Lexicalized Tree Adjoining Grammars will be presented. The algorithm takes advantage of a peculiar characteristic of Lexicalized TAGs, i.e. that each elementary tree is associated with a lexical item, called its anchor. The algorithm employs a mixed strategy: it works bottom-up from the lexical anchors and then expands (partial) analyses making top-down predictions.
Analysing the extent and severity of HIV/AIDS among educators without looking at the broader context within which schools operate, provides only a partial understanding of the immense challenges facing the education sector in South Africa. This study examines material issues affecting the quality of teaching and learning in our schools, both within and external to the classroom environment. The findings reveal significant disparities in conditions, both within and between provinces.
The mammalian small heat shock proteinaB-crystallin can
be phosphorylated at three different sites, Ser19, Ser45 and
Ser59. We compared the intracellular distribution of wild-type, nonphosphorylatable and all possible pseudophos-phorylation mutants ofaB-crystallin by immunoblot and
immunocytochemical analyses of stable and transiently
transfected cells. We observed that pseudophosphorylation
at two (especially S19D/S45D) or all three (S19D/S45D/
S59D) sites induced the partial translocationofaB-crystallin
from the detergent-soluble to the detergent-insoluble frac-tion....
