Partial evaluation technology continues to grow and mature. ACM SIGPLANsponsored
conferences and workshops have provided a forum for researchers to
share current results and directions of work. Partial evaluation techniques are
being used in commercially available compilers (for example the Chez Scheme
system). They are also being used in industrial scheduling systems (see Augustsson's
article in this volume), they have been incorporated into popular
commercial products (see Singh's article in this volume), and they are the basis
of methodologies for implementing domain-specific languages....
This paper presents DEPEVAL(summ), a dependency-based metric for automatic evaluation of summaries. Using a reranking parser and a Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG) annotation, we produce a set of dependency triples for each summary. The dependency set for each candidate summary is then automatically compared against dependencies generated from model summaries. We examine a number of variations of the method, including the addition of WordNet, partial matching, or removing relation labels from the dependencies. ...
The use of implants has, little by little, been imposed
on the world of dentistry. Some years ago,
it was strongly suggested that the practitioners
asked implant patients to sign a consent form to
release the dentist from all responsibility in case of
failure. Then, one day a patient in France sued his
dentist for having prepared his teeth for a fixed
partial denture without suggesting the implant alternative.
The patient won the case. Soon it might
be necessary to ask patients to sign a form indicating
that they have refused implant treatment.
This study characterized maxillary sinus mucositis (SIMS) adjacent to teeth with apical periodontitis
(AP), and assessed its resolution three months after endodontic treatment. 29 subjects who maxillary
posterior teeth with AP were imaged with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Resolution of
SIMS was assessed with CBCT three months after treatment, and periapical healing was assessed
using the PAI after six months. Four non-compliant subjects were discontinued and SIMS was
identified in 14/25 subjects (56%).

With historically low interest rates and the unprecedented monetary
and fiscal stimulus measures taken to combat the market downturn of
2008–2009, many believe that the Fed has no choice but to begin raising
interest rates in the near future. That is a normal course of action and
signals that the Fed believes the economy is on sounder footing. Yet, the
prospect of rising interest rates provides much consternation for bond
investors, who may be disserved by such action.
GLR* is a recently developed robust version of the Generalized LR Parser [Tomita, 1986], that can parse almost any input sentence by ignoring unrecognizable parts of the sentence. On a given input sentence, the parser returns a collection of parses that correspond to maximal, or close to maximal, parsable subsets of the original input. This paper describes recent work on developing an integrated heuristic scheme for selecting the parse that is deemed "best" from such a collection. We describe the heuristic measures used and their combination scheme. ...
This design guide evaluates Cisco VPN product performance in scalable and resilient site-to-site VPN
topologies, using Cisco VPN routers running Cisco IOS Software, with IPsec as the tunneling method.
The concepts presented can also be applied to other Cisco products that do not run Cisco IOS software.
This design guide begins with an overview, followed by design recommendations and product selection
and performance information. Finally, partial configuration examples are presented.
This chapter discusses sinusoidal steady state power calculations. Numerical integration is used to obtain the rms value, average power and quadrature power. Three-phase circuits are analyzed by converting the circuits into the frequency domain and by using the Kirchoff voltage and current laws. The unknown voltages and currents are solved using matrix techniques. Given a network function or transfer function, MATLAB has functions that can be used to (i) obtain the poles and zeros, (ii) perform partial fraction expansion, and (iii) evaluate the transfer function at specific frequencies.

Approach to the Patient: Erectile Dysfunction
A good physician-patient relationship helps to unravel the possible causes of ED, many of which require discussion of personal and sometimes embarrassing topics. For this reason, a primary care provider is often ideally suited to initiate the evaluation. A complete medical and sexual history should be taken in an effort to assess whether the cause of ED is organic, psychogenic, or multifactorial (Fig. 492). Initial questions should focus on the onset of symptoms, the presence and duration of partial erections, and the progression of ED.
Karnofsky was among the first to champion the evaluation of a chemotherapeutic agent's benefit by carefully quantitating its effect on tumor size and using these measurements to objectively decide the basis for further treatment of a particular patient or further clinical evaluation of a drug's potential.

Abstract A model of shallow fluid behavior is evaluated using a variety of numerical solving techniques. The model is defined by a pair of partial differential equations which have two dimensions in space and one dimension of time. The equations concern the vorticity ω and the stream function ψ which are related to the velocity field of the fluid. The equations are first discretized in time and space.
Over the last decade numerous accounting papers investigate the empirical
relation between stock market values (or changes in values) and particular
accounting numbers for the purpose of assessing or providing a basis of
assessing those numbers’ use or proposed use in an accounting standard. We
call the group of papers that are at least partially motivated by standard-setting
purposes, the ‘‘value-relevance’’ literature. This paper’s objective is to critically
evaluate the standard-setting inferences that can be drawn from these valuerelevance
This paper presents a new approach to partial parsing of context-free structures. The approach is based on Markov Models. Each layer of the resulting structure is represented by its own Markov Model, and output of a lower layer is passed as input to the next higher layer. An empirical evaluation of the method yields very good results for NP/PP chunking of German newspaper texts.
The presenting signs and symptoms include hematuria, abdominal pain, and a flank or abdominal mass. This classic triad occurs in 10–20% of patients. Other symptoms are fever, weight loss, anemia, and a varicocele (Table 90-4). The tumor can also be found incidentally on a radiograph. Widespread use of radiologic cross-sectional imaging procedures (CT, ultrasound, MRI) contributes to earlier detection, including incidental renal masses detected during evaluation for other medical conditions.
In spoken dialogue systems, Partially Observable Markov Decision Processes (POMDPs) provide a formal framework for making dialogue management decisions under uncertainty, but efficiency and interpretability considerations mean that most current statistical dialogue managers are only MDPs. These MDP systems encode uncertainty explicitly in a single state representation.
