  • In chapter 11, we focus on assessing the reliability of such an estimate and on some additional considerations in project analysis. After studying this chapter, you should understand: How to perform and interpret a sensitivity analysis for a proposed investment, how to perform and interpret a scenario analysis for a proposed investment, how the degree of operating leverage can affect the cash fl ows of a project,...

  • Empirical models for money holdings are applied for two purposes. First, they are used to guide the analysis of monetary developments, as a means of quantifying the contribution of various economic determinants to money growth in order to provide a deeper understanding of the causes of money growth. This is necessary in order to develop a view of underlying monetary expansion. Second, the models provide a normative framework to assess whether the stock of money in the economy is consistent with price stability and to interpret the nature of deviations from this norm.

  • causing a voltage sag with duration of more than 1 cycle occurs within the area of vulnerability. However, faults outside this area will not cause the voltage to drop below 0.5 pu. The same discussion applies to the area of vulnerability for ASD loads. The less sensitive the equipment, the smaller the area of vulnerability will be (and the fewer times sags will cause the equipment to misoperate). The voltage sag performance for a given customer facility will depend on whether the customer is supplied from the transmission system or from the distribution system.

  • While it has been demonstrated that these materials have good sensitivity to polar VOCs, such as alcohols and acetone, 11,12 their rather poor response to nonpolar analytes has been viewed as a major drawback. In this report, we explored two ways to improve the sensor performance of regioregular polythiophene. The first approach is to add a second polymer at the end of the polythiophene chain to form a block copolymer. This second polymer interacts with the analytes in different ways, thus adding another dimensionality to the sensing response of the material.

  • Since sensitive data of the organisation may need to be disclosed during a call for tenders procedure for an IS audit, a restricted request procedure or limited competition should be performed, depending on the types of activities of the organisation, to guarantee the confidentiality of the information. Depending on the protection requirements of the information, the service providers and IS auditors may need to verify their trustworthiness in accordance with the German ”Law on Security Clearance Checks” (SÜG - see [SÜG]).

  • We determined differentially expressed genes in HT29 human colon cancer cells, both after short treatment with methotrexate (MTX) and after the resistance to MTX had been established. Screening was performed using Atlas Human Cancer 1.2K cDNA arrays. The analysis was carried out using Atlasimage 2.01 andgenespring6.1 software.

  • Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was performed on human leukemic daunorubicin-sensitiveK562 cells and their multiresistant counterpart derived by selection. Statistical analysis, including variable reduction and linear discrimi-nant analysis was performed on sensitive and multiresistant cells spectra in order to establish a diagnostic tool for multiresistant pattern. For each of the twomethods of data reduction tested [genetic algorithm or principal component analysis (PCA)] discriminationbetween the twocell lineswas found to be possible....

  • The chemical sensor plays an essential role in the fields of environmental conservation and monitoring, disaster and disease prevention, and industrial analysis. A typical chemical sensor is a device that transforms chemical information in a selective and reversible way, ranging from the concentration of a specific sample component to total composition analysis, into an analytically useful signal.

  • DNA testing is performed by mutational analysis or linkage studies in individuals at risk for a genetic disorder known to be present in a family. Mass screening programs require tests of high sensitivity and specificity to be costeffective. Prerequisites for the success of genetic screening programs include the following: that the disorder is potentially serious; that it can be influenced at a presymptomatic stage by changes in behavior, diet, and/or pharmaceutical manipulations; and that the screening does not result in any harm or discrimination.

  • The CGAP measure of relative macroeconomic performance is attractive for a number of reasons. First, it is based on changes in real GDP, a fundamental variable that should be highly correlated with changes in underlying welfare. Second, our measure should not be unduly sensitive to the stage of an economy’s business cycle going into the crisis. An economy that was overheating prior to 2008 would tend to have a positive unexplained component at that point in time, but it is only the unexplained component during the crisis itself that is considered in our analysis.
