Bone pain is the most common symptom in myeloma, affecting nearly 70% of patients. The pain usually involves the back and ribs, and unlike the pain of metastatic carcinoma, which often is worse at night, the pain of myeloma is precipitated by movement. Persistent localized pain in a patient with myeloma usually signifies a pathologic fracture. The bone lesions of myeloma are caused by the proliferation of tumor cells, activation of osteoclasts that destroy bone, and suppression of osteoblasts that form new bone.
Anemia occurs in ~80% of myeloma patients. It is usually normocytic and normochromic and related both to the replacement of normal marrow by expanding tumor cells and to the inhibition of hematopoiesis by factors made by the tumor. In addition, mild hemolysis may contribute to the anemia. A larger than expected fraction of patients may have megaloblastic anemia due to either folate or vitamin B12 deficiency. Granulocytopenia and thrombocytopenia are very rare.
Protein C inhibitor (PCI; SERPINA5) is a plasma serine protease inhibitor,
and a potent inhibitor of activated protein C (APC), which plays a critical
role in the anticoagulant protein C pathway. Recently, PCI was also found
to form a complex with the serine protease hepatocyte growth factor
activator (HGFA), inhibiting the HGFA-catalyzed activation of the single-chain hepatocyte growth factor precursor.
Factor VII-activating protease (FSAP) circulates as an inactive zymogen in
the plasma. FSAP also regulates fibrinolysis by activating pro-urokinase or
cellular activation via cleavage of platelet-derived growth factor BB
(PDGF-BB). As the Marburg I polymorphism of FSAP, with reduced
enzymatic activity, is a risk factor for atherosclerosis and liver fibrosis, the
regulation of FSAP activity is of major importance.
The objective of the research is: To determine the prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency in pregnant women at the National Hospital of Gynecology & Obstetrics and the National Hospital of Endocrinology; to explore relationships between plasma 25 hydroxy vitamin D concentration in women with gestational diabetes mellitus.

Gangliosides are sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipids present on mam-malian plasma membranes, where they participate in cell-surface events
such as modulation of growth factor receptors and cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions. Antibodies to gangliosides have been associated with
a wide range of clinically identifiable acute and chronic neuropathy syn-dromes.
It is now generally accepted that factor XII (FXII) binds to
cellular surfaces in the vascular system. One of the suggested
receptors of this binding is the glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored urokinase-like plasminogen activator (u-PAR)
harbored in caveolae/lipid rafts. However, binding of FXII
to human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) has
never been shown to be localized to these specialized mem-brane structures. Using microscopical techniques, we here
report that FXII binds to specific patches of the HUVEC
