Graft polymerization of acrylic acid on bamboo fiber using ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) as initiator in aqueous medium has been studied. Infrared (IR) spectroscopy was used to confirm the graft copolymer formation. Some effect factors on the graft reaction were also studied in detail. The optimal condition for grafting acrylic acid (AA) onto bamboo fiber was CAN 0.072 M, AA 10 g, HNO 0.0025 M, temperature 45o C and time 240 min.

The annual production of various polymers can be measured only in billion tons of which polyolefins alone figure around 100 million tons per year. In addition to radical and ionic polymerization, a large part of this huge amount is manufactured by coordination polymerization technology. The most important Ziegler-Natta, chromium- and metallocene-based catalysts, however, contain early transition metals which are too oxophilic to be used in aqueous media.
In recent years, great focus has been placed upon polymer thin films. These polymer
thin films are important in many technological applications, ranging from coatings
and adhesives to organic electronic devices, including sensors and detectors. Polymers
can be prepared using chemical and/or electrochemical methods of polymerization.
There are a few advantages of electrosynthesis over chemical methods.
Sulfur is the element with the largest number of solid allotropes. Most of these consist
of unbranched cyclic molecules with ring sizes ranging from 6 to 20. In addition, polymeric
allotropes are known which are believed to consist of chains in a random coil or helical
conformation. Furthermore, several high-pressure allotropes have been characterized.
In this chapter the preparation, crystal structures, physical properties and analysis of these
allotropes are discussed.

The state-of-the-art of controlled radical polymerization (CRP)
in 2011 is presented. Atom transfer radical polymerization,
stable radical mediated polymerization, and degenerate transfer
processes, including reversible addition fragmentation chain
transfer are the most often used CRP procedures. CRP opens
new avenues to novel materials from a large range of monomers.
Detailed structure-reactivity relationships and mechanistic
understanding not only helps attain a better controlled
polymerization but enables preparation of polymers with
