Harmonic distortion problems include equipment overheating, motor failures, capacitor failure and inaccurate power metering. The topic of power system harmonics was covered for the first time 20 years ago and the first edition has become a standard reference work in this area. Unprecedented developments in power electronic devices and their integration at all levels in the power system require a new look at the causes and effects of these problems, and the state of hardware and software available for harmonic assessment.
The generation, delivery, and utilization of electric power and energy remain among the most challenging
and exciting fields of electrical engineering. The astounding technological developments of our age are
highly dependent upon a safe, reliable, and economic supply of electric power. The objective of The
Electric Power Engineering Handbook is to provide a contemporary overview of this far-reaching field as
well as a useful guide and educational resource for its study.
I have been undertaking the research and practical applications of power
system optimization since the early 1980s. In the early stage of my career, I
worked in universities such as Chongqing University (China), Brunel
University (UK), National University of Singapore, and Howard University
(USA). Since 2000 I have been working for AREVA T & D Inc (USA). When
I was a full - time professor at Chongqing University, I wrote a tutorial on power
system optimal operation, which I used to teach my senior undergraduate
students and postgraduate students in power engineering until 1996.
Power engineering is truly one of the main pillars of the electricity-driven modern
civilization. And over the years, power engineering has also been amultidisciplinary
field in terms of numerous applications of different subjects. This ranges from linear
algebra, electronics, signal processing to artificial intelligence including recent
trends like bio-inspired computation, lateral computing and the like.
The growing interest in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to
power system engineering has introduced the potentials of using this state-of-the-art
technology. AI techniques, unlike strict mathematical methods, have the apparent
ability to adapt to nonlinearities and discontinuities commonly found in power
systems. The best-known algorithms in this class include evolution programming,
genetic algorithms, simulated annealing, tabu search, and neural networks.
In the last three decades many papers on these applications have been published.

This report was concerned with the situation of learning English for
Engineering (EEE). It is fact that ESP subjects, especially EEE are worried problems.
Although EEE is one of compulsory subjects, many students in FOFL, HUT did not get
good marks and d06, k52 students were not an exception. The objective of this report was
to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of learning EEE as well as the main
reason why they did not get good mark in the final test.
