The sample questions that follow are organized by content category
and represent the types of questions included in the General Test.
The purpose of these questions is to provide some indication of the
range of topics covered in the test as well as to provide some addi-
tional questions for practice purposes. These questions do not
represent either the length of the actual test or the proportion
of actual test questions within each of the content categories.
The Math Review is designed to familiarize you with the mathematical skills and concepts likely to be tested on the Graduate Record Examinations General Test. This material, which is divided into the four basic content areas of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis, includes many definitions and examples with solutions, and there is a set of exercises (with answers) at the end of each of these four sections. Note, however, this review is not intended to be comprehensive.
In the paper-based General Test, the topics in the
analytical writing section will be presented in the test
book and you will handwrite your essay responses on
the answer sheets provided. Make sure you use the
correct answer sheet for each task.
It is important to budget your time. Within the
45-minute time limit for the Issue task, you will need
to allow sufficient time to choose one of the two
topics, think about the issue you’ve chosen, plan a
response, and compose your essay.

undergraduate or postgraduate level. A General Training
score cannot be used for entry to a university as the

Molecular analysis is generally more informative if testing is initiated in a symptomatic family member, since the identification of a mutation can direct the testing of other at-risk family members (whether they are symptomatic or not). In the absence of additional familial or environmental risk factors, individuals who test negative for the mutation found in the affected family member can be informed that they are at general population risk for that particular disease. Furthermore, they can be reassured that they are not at risk for passing on the mutation to their children.
International law practitioners and scholars frequently encounter difficulties in “finding” the
factual elements and normative components that serve as the building blocks for the sources of
international law. While treaties as an authoritative source of international law present the fewest
problems, the same cannot be said of the other two sources. To determine the existence of a
customary rule of international law, for example, one must locate relevant state practice, and test
that practice against standards of uniformity, consistency, and the requirement of opinio juris.
It is very difficult to determine what are the most popular of modern programming languages. Some languages are very popular for particular kinds of applications (e.g., COBOL is still strong in the corporate data center, often on large mainframes, FORTRAN in engineering applications, scripting languages in Web development, and C in embedded applications), while some languages are regularly used to write many different kinds of applications. Also many applications use a mix of several languages in their construction and use.
