A preliminary study was carried out in mid 1999 on the status and potential impact of the introduction
of exotic fish species in the Mekong Basin. Introductions have been made for four main purposes:
aquaculture, stocking into lakes and reservoirs, pest control (mosquito) and the aquarium fish trade.
Introductions of exotic species and movements of large quantities of fish for stocking are accompanied
by risks to the environment, the possibility of native fish species declining through competition, predation
or genetic interference, and the possible spread of disease....
Strengthening functioning systems to improve health outcomes will, in some cases, require new ways of thinking about
health investments and greater dialogue with partner countries about constraints and opportunities.
By playing a role in the near-annihilation of a species, Theodore Roosevelt,
the president of the United States at the turn of the twentieth century, unwittingly
laid the groundwork for the most dramatic triumph yet in the use
of artificial insemination (AI) to rescue a species from extinction.
In the early 1900s, waves of immigrants from Europe settled in the
American Midwest. As humans transformed the land, they declared war
on a perceived pest: the prairie dog.
In 2002, an estimated 250,000 healthcare-associated pneumonias developed in U.S. hospitals and 36,000 of these were associated with deaths.1 Patients with mechanically-assisted ventilation have a high risk of developing healthcare-associated pneumonia. For the year 2011, NHSN facilities reported more than 3,525 VAPs and the incidence for various types of hospital units ranged from 0.0-4.9 per 1,000 ventilator days.2
Prevention and control of healthcare-associated pneumonia is discussed in the CDC/HICPAC document, Guidelines for Prevention of Healthcare-Associated Pneumonia, 20033.

To represent the specific behaviors of this reflection,
a schematic model was sought that simultaneously covered
health promotion and the Health Policy for the Elderly,
with a view to adopting actions for greater awareness,
resulting in attitudes of empowerment and suggestions
for gerontogeriatric nursing actions. Nola Penders Health
Promotion Model(10) was used. Through a chart, it
manages to represent the behaviors that can lead to health
Nola Penders Model was developed in the United
States in the 1980s, but was little explored in Brazil.
This book began its evolution in 1999 when the British Antarctic Survey,
where I worked at the time, began a new research programme on the management
of marine ecosystems. This programme concentrated upon the
krill-based ecosystem at SouthGeorgia which has been the subject of almost
continuous study since the Discovery Expeditions in the 1920s. Latterly,
international efforts to understand the dynamics of this ecosystem and the
wider Southern Ocean have been coordinated by the Commission for the
Conservation of AntarcticMarine Living Resources (CCAMLR)....

Encouraging active play and walking as a routine in the daily lives of young children may be
important in preventing obesity. Children who sleep fewer hours a day are more at risk of
obesity and active children tend to sleep longer (Taheri 2006 cited in Milano 2007). However,
research into effective interventions for obesity is complex and although individually each
factor may make only a small contribution to weight gain, the potential synergies may
underestimate the overall impact of playing.
A major aim of this workshop was to couple the theoretical information of lecture material to the
practical aspects of formulating, making and storing farm made feeds. Unfortunately the
equipment ordered for the workshop did not arrive due to factors beyond the control of the
organisers. Hand operated equipment was used in its place with most of the feed making
equipment and feed ingredients transported from the NDAL centre at Goroka to HAQDEC.
Because of its accessibility, the intertidal zone has offered
excellent opportunities to study the adaptations of individual
organisms and populations to their environment,
and the factors controlling community composition. Early
work on seashores concentrated on the problems of life
in an environment characterized by steep gradients in
physical conditions, but in more recent years, the focus
of research on the fascinating shore ecosystems has been
on understanding the processes controlling their productivity
and dynamic functioning.
This category of pests is widespread and affects every stage of poultry production to a greater or lesser
extent. The house fly (Musca domestica) and other fly species with similar biology and habits can
generally be managed with minimal use of pesticides where appropriate cultural and biological control
practices are most effective (broiler breeders and layers). Manure management to reduce moisture
reduces fly-breeding potential and enhances the effectiveness of naturally occurring fly parasites and
