  • Automatic process control is concerned with maintaining process variables, temperatures, pressures, flows, compositions, and the like, at a desired operating value. As we shall see in the ensuing pages, processes are dynamic in nature. Changes are always occurring, and if actions are not taken, the important process variables— those related to safety, product quality, and production rates—will not achieve design conditions.

  • The third edition is divided into five parts. Part one describes some important basic concepts. Part two describes unit operations that take place at ambient temperature or involve minimum heating of foods. Part three includes operations that heat foods to preserve them or to alter their eating quality. Part four describes operations that remove heat from foods to extend their shelf life with minimal changes in nutritional quality or sensory characteristics. Part five describes post-processing operations, including packaging and distribution logistics. ...

  • The characteristics lines in X-ray spectra result from electronic transitions between inner atomic orbitals. The X-ray spectra for most heavy elements are much simpler than the UV/Vis spectra observed in ICP-OES, for example. (Only a few lines!!!) Big difference between X-ray and UVVis: The radiation is ionizing, and doesn’t just excite electrons to higher levels. Moseley’s law: Predicts the basic relationship of atom number and the frequency of the characteristic lines

  • This paper presents the results of soil characteristics study and orientation for rational and sustainable use of major soil types in Thai Thuy District, Thai Binh Province, where is facing many environmental problems. The interactive process between river, sea and human activities over time has resulted in the characteristics of 10 soil types, which are grouped in 4 main classes (acid sulfate soil, saline soil, alluvial soil and sandy soil). They have been used for agricultural production (mainly for rice and other crops growing).

  • Cost and Processing Analysis for Retailers In view of the vast literature documenting the important role of family background characteristics—e.g. ethnicity, parental income and education—in student achievement (Coleman et al., 1966; Phillips et al., 1998; Bowen and Bok, 1998), I assume that ij x is positively correlated with willingness-to-pay for educational quality. In the empirical analysis below, I also estimate specifications that allow willingness-to-pay to depend on family income while other characteristics have direct effects on student achievement....

  • Over the past few decades numerous studies have shown an alarming increase in the concentration of atmospheric particular matter called aerosols resulting from a variety of human activities, ranging from agricultural to combustion of fossil fuels. Besides having serious impacts on the health of all living creatures, these particles can affect planetary radiation budget. Consequences of this change include global temperature shifts and the altering of atmospheric and oceanic circulation patterns.

Epidemiological investigation carried out as retrospective, descriptive, observational study based on the medical charts of 2404 consecutive patients diagnosed with tuberculosis between 2003 and 2010. Of these, 1721 (71.6%) were males, 683 (28.4%) were females, 35% were smokers and 12% suffered from alcoholism. The mean age of the study group was 42.6 (range from 15 to 89) years. 74.

  • This book is dedicated to thermoset resins, an important class of polymer materials. Unlike thermoplastics, thermoset resins are characterised by a curing reaction, which converts the low molecular weight liquid resins (easy to process) into solid three- dimensional network structures. The main advantage of a thermoset over a thermoplastic is that a wide range of properties can be achieved by simply adjusting the crosslink density of the thermoset network...

  • Congratulations! You are about to embark on an adventure. This book is about the processes, the people, and the practices that we call construction management—a term and a profession that may be unfamiliar to many people. Construction, as most individuals understand it, is an activity or a series of activities that involves some craftspeople, building materials, tools, and equipment. But you will learn that there is a great deal more to it than that.
