It is suggested in this paper that t w o - l e v e l morphology theory (Kay, Koskenniemi) can be extended to include morphological tone. This extension treats phonological features as I/O tapes for Finite State Transducers in a parallel sequential incrementation (PSI) architecture; phonological processes (e.g. assimilation) are seen as variants of an elementary unification operation over feature tapes (linear unification phonology, LUP).
We discuss text summarization in terms of maximum coverage problem and its variant. We explore some decoding algorithms including the ones never used in this summarization formulation, such as a greedy algorithm with performance guarantee, a randomized algorithm, and a branch-andbound method. On the basis of the results of comparative experiments, we also augment the summarization model so that it takes into account the relevance to the document cluster.

of welding procedure data sheets.
In recent years, there has been a paradigm shift in learning, speciﬁcally the
manner in which information is gathered and ingested. This is particularly no-
table in subject matter that covers great breadth or is rapidly evolving, such as
medicine, and more speciﬁcally, diagnostic imaging. Students and residents
(and for that matter, practicing radiologists) quickly turn to the Internet to
“Google™” unknown factoids, rapidly gathering information, in many cases
without source validation.
This paper discusses research on distinguishing word meanings in the context of information retrieval systems. We conducted experiments with three sources of evidence for making these distinctions: morphology, part-of-speech, and phrases. We have focused on the distinction between h o m o n y m y and polysemy (unrelated vs. related meanings). Our results support the need to distinguish h o m o n y m y and p o l y semy. We describe a simple variant of the interpolated Markov model with non-emitting state transitions and prove that it is strictly more powerful than any Markov model. Empirical results demonstrate that the non-emitting model outperforms the interpolated model on the Brown corpus and on the Wall Street Journal under a wide range of experimental conditions. The nonemitting model is also much less prone to overtraining. The remainder of our article consists of four sections.
Discrete Wavelet Transform is a wavelet (DWT) transform that is widely used in numerical and functional analysis. Its key advantage over more traditional transforms, such as the Fourier transform, lies in its ability to offer temporal resolution, i.e. it captures both frequency and location (or time) information.
It has been previously reported that the structure of a human pancreatic
ribonuclease variant, namely PM8, constitutes a dimer by the exchange of
an N-terminal domain, although in an aqueous solution it is found mainly

the conserved histones may become major determinants for the chromatin
structure regulating gene expression and other DNA-related processes. An
analysis of the involvement of different core histone variants in different
nuclear processes and the structure of different variant nucleosome cores

This paper describes a novel approach to generate potential foreign-accented phonetic transcriptions using phonological rewrite rules. For each pair of a native language (Li) and a target language (L2), a set of postlexical rules is designed to transform canonical phonetic dictionaries of L2 into adapted dictionaries for native Li speakers. Some general considerations on the design of such a rule-based system are presented.
We introduce a new approach to transitionbased dependency parsing in which the parser does not directly construct a dependency structure, but rather an undirected graph, which is then converted into a directed dependency tree in a post-processing step. This alleviates error propagation, since undirected parsers do not need to observe the single-head constraint. Undirected parsers can be obtained by simplifying existing transition-based parsers satisfying certain conditions.
