  • that can occur during the various phases of oil and gas recovery from subsurface reservoirs including production, drilling, hydraulic fracturing, and workover operations. Formation damage assessment, control, and remediation are among the most important issues to be resolved for efficient exploitation of hydrocarbon reservoirs. Such damage is caused by various adverse processes, including chemical, physical, biological, and thermal interactions of formation and fluids, and deformation of formation under stress and fluid shear.

  • Risk management is nowadays the way to prevent serious damage or critical consequences from dangerous situations in everyday life. Although, for many years, much has been done in terms of prevention and great efforts are continuously invested into it, the concept of risk as an unforeseen event which can cause danger or a great modification of a previous situation is still an issue to be taken into account.

Abiotic stress (water deficit, salinity, heat, heavy metals soil contamination, intense light, etc) affects significantly crop growth and yield in agricultural areas all over the world. Thus, it is imperative to study their effect upon the crops and discriminate among abiotic stresses using new noninvasive and nondestructive remote sensing precision diagnostic techniques.

  • The ability of privately insured individuals to obtain faster access to care is significantly influenced by governmental policies and approaches. Allowing public providers to treat both private and public patients and to receive different remuneration levels for these separate activities can encourage their involvement in the private sector. This spurs the development of a market for PHI products offering access to more timely elective care in the private sector.

  • The production of free radicals (ROS) is an unavoidable consequence of life in an aerobic environment. Free radicals produced from the metabolic activities of oxygen attack biological membranes and lipoproteins via oxidation in a process called lipid perioxidation. This attack damages cells and lipids often in a chain reaction with carbon-based molecules such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in a reaction with molecular oxygen. This creates oxidative stress and damage to tissues. Free radicals also damage chromosomal DNA.

  • In order to secure the energy supply to an increasing population and at the same time limit the damage to Earth, i.e. avoiding a fatal climate change as a result of anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases (primarily CO2), immediate action is necessary. This includes reducing the energy consumption, increasing the energy conversion efficiency, and using renewable energies. The transport sector is the one most dependent on fossil energy and it stands for a significant part of the energy consumption in the world.

Since tissue-engineered products usually consist of living cells, technical issues include the limited shelf life of the cells and the use of specialized conditions for transportation. Without storage, treatment with cells requires timely harvesting from the donor, which significantly affects the availability of tissue-engineered products.
