Whereas the selection of segmentation variables mainly drawn from management
needs is straightforward, the selection of variables used as descriptors of the identified
segments is more complex. This complexity stems not only from the enormous num-
ber of possible variables, but also from the necessary twofold link these variables have
to offer, namely the link with the selected segmentation variables on the one hand, and
the link with secondary data on media profiles, distributional coverage etc.
All companies, including registered investment companies (funds), incur risk as a part of doing
business. In order to achieve investment returns, a fund must incur investment risks, and the risk
of loss arising from daily operations is an unavoidable by-product of any business, including the
Fund advisers have long been responsible for managing funds’ risks.
The importance of sustainable management of non-market forest goods and services has increased
during the last few years. This is also reflected in a number of policy documents within the EU. The
new EU Rural Development Regulation speaks about the “non-productive investments", as
investments to enhance the public amenity value of forests. The stakeholder consultation process
within the EU Forestry Strategy and the report of the strategy’s implementation identify the issue of
creating markets for currently non-market forest goods and services as an emerging issue.
International migrants include rural and urban
women and men with different socio-economic
profiles and ages. Some are highly educated and
specialized people (whose migration is referred to
as ‘brain drain’). Some are poor people for whom
migration is a subsistence strategy. The United
Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) estimates that
the typical profile of migrants comprises young
women and men from 15 to 35 years of age,
generally belonging to medium and low socio-
economic groups, but not to the poorest segments
of society (Hatton and Williamson 2004, 1-30).
Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago and fourth most populous country, consisting of about 240 million people from 300 ethnic groups, speaking 250 languages, scattered unevenly across about half of its 17,000 islands. Sixty percent of the population resides on the island of Java. The population is increasing at a greater rate than previously predicted, likely related to a de-emphasis of the national family planning (FP) programs and regional migration.

However, more recently, as the pace of economic growth has slowed somewhat,
longer-term interest rates have fallen and mortgage refinancing activity has picked up.
Increased refinancing has in turn led the Fed’s holding of agency MBS to run off more
quickly than previously anticipated. Although mortgage prepayment rates are difficult to
predict, under the assumption that mortgage rates remain near current levels, we
estimated that an additional $400 billion or so of MBS and agency debt currently in the
Fed’s portfolio could be repaid by the end of 2011. ...
With regard to human resources in the health care sector, Hungary had
3.1 active physicians per 1000 population in 2008. The number of physicians
has dropped substantially since 2003, and increased professional mobility may
lead to a further decline in this ratio in the near future. Physicians are unevenly
distributed, both in terms of geography and specialties. A similar trend can be
observed for the allied health care personnel.
This HSA for Uganda was carried out in 2011, during the first year of implementation of the Uganda
Health Sector Strategic and Investment Plan (HSSIP) 2010/11–2014/15. The findings of this assessment
will serve as a baseline of Uganda‟s health system at the beginning of HSSIP implementation. It would be
beneficial for a similar assessment to be carried out toward the end of HSSIP implementation, to
measure the progress that the health system will have made in the ensuing years. Thus, to some extent,
recommendations provided in this HSA are intentionally aligned with the HSSIP. ...
The second aim of this thesis is to investigate whether Thai mutual fund performance
can be explained by any of its characteristics. The study examines statistic and economic
importance of fund characteristics to its performance. In the literature, evidence is sparse and
mixed on developed markets, let alone that on emerging markets. Rather than focusing on
one particular characteristic, this study draws on the evidence from five important
characteristics in the literature, which offer theoretical and empirical support.
Nevertheless, the WTO Agreement on Agriculture (AoA) provides Members—both developing
and developed—with certain flexibilities to pursue sustainable development objectives like
protecting the environment as well as preserving a viable rural farming sector. Mostly developed
countries have gained some experience in developing such policies since they had to restructure
their rural production sectors already with the beginning of industrialization.
