A resistance of magnesium alloys to surface degradation is paramount for their applications in automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics and general-purpose markets. An emphasis of this book is on oxidation, corrosion and surface modifications, designed to enhance the alloy surface stability. It covers a nature of oxides grown at elevated temperatures and oxidation characteristics of selected alloys along with elements of general and electrochemical corrosion.
Of late, the coastal ecosystems are highly degraded
due to high population and industrial growth (Glasby &
Roonwal, 1995; UNEP, 1997). Due to various pollutions
including pesticide poisoning (Sen Gupta et al., 1990),
over exploitation of water resources by power plant
industries and the municipal uses and encroachment for
urban developments force the fishing community to the
brink of disappearance. When those natural resources
are imperilled, so too are the livelihoods of the many
people who live and work there.
a-enolase (ENOA) is a metabolic enzyme involved in the synthesis of pyru-vate. It also acts as a plasminogen receptor and thus mediates activation of
plasmin and extracellular matrix degradation. In tumor cells, EMOAis
upregulated and supports anaerobic proliferation (Warburg effect), it is
expressed at the cell surface, where it promotes cancer invasion
Methioninec-lyase (MGL) (EC 184.108.40.206), which is present in certain lin-eages of bacteria, plants, and protozoa but missing in mammals, catalyzes
the single-step degradation of sulfur-containing amino acids (SAAs) to
a-keto acids, ammonia, and thiol compounds.
