Thea3b1 integrin is an adhesion receptor for extracellular
matrix proteins including isoforms of laminin, and the
changes of its expression level in various cancer cells are
thought to cause their malignant phenotypes. We have
cloned an approximately 4 kb DNA fragment of the 5¢-flanking region of the murinea3 integrin gene and analyzed
its promoter activity.

From October-November, VNRC to deal with more than one complex dis showed its capacityaster at the
same time by continuing activities in response to HFMD, and in carrying out immediate action to reduce the
impact caused by the flooding in the Mekong delta area. In reality, VNRC has also included a component on
emergency health, focusing on disease prevention and health promotion activities to address the present
continuous increase in HFMD and dengue fever cases in the three affected provinces by the flood.
The rhesus (Rh) blood group antigens are of considerable importance in
transfusion medicine as well as in newborn or autoimmune hemolytic
diseases due to their high antigenicity. We identified a major DNaseI
hypersensitive site at the 5¢ flanking regions of bothRHDandRHCEexon
1. A 34 bp fragment located at)191 to)158 from a translation start posi-tion, and containing the TCCCCTCCC sequence, was involved in enhan-cing promoter activity, which was assessed by luciferase reporter gene
Chapter 16 - Sales promotion. The main goals of this chapter are: To understand the role of sales promotion in a company's integrated marketing communications program and to examine why it is increasingly important, to examine the various objectives of sales promotion programs, to examine the types of consumer- and trade-oriented sales promotion tools and the factors to consider in using them.
In past decades the number of exercising individuals and the area of sports medicine have grown considerably.
Sports medicine has developed both in terms of its clinical importance with appropriate diagnosis and adequate rehabilitation
following injury as well as its potential role in the promotion of health and prevention of life-style diseases
in individuals of all ages.
The term NEMCA refers to nonfaradaic electrochemical modification of catalytic activity. The NEMCA effect is also known as electrochemical promotion or electrochemical promotion of catalysis (EPOC) or electropromotion. It is the effect observed on the rates and selectivities of catalytic reactions taking place on electronically conductive catalysts deposited on ionic (or mixed ionic–electronic) supports upon application of electric current or potential (typically 72 V) between the catalyst and a second (counter or auxiliary) electrode also deposited on the same support. ...

The cell cycle-dependent element (CDE) and the cell cycle genes homology
region (CHR) control the transcription of genes with maximum expression
phase and in mitosis. Promoters of these genes are repressed by pro-teins binding to CDE⁄CHR elements in G0 and G1 phases. Relief from
repression begins in S phase and continues into G2
phase and mitosis.
The 5¢ flanking region of the bile salt export pump (Bsep) gene was systematically analysed to provide the basis for understanding the mechanisms which regulate Bsep transcription. In addition substrates and drugs were investigated for their ability to alter Bsep promoter activity. Bsep promoter function was restricted to hepatocyte derived HepG2 cells. The 5¢ deletional analysis revealed a biphasic shape of reporter gene activities, indicating a suppressive element between nucleotides )800 and )512. ...
NOX is the catalytic subunit of NADPH oxidase, the superoxide-generat-ing enzyme. Among several isoforms of NOX, NOX4 is abundantly
expressed in various tissues. To clarify the mechanisms of constitutive and
ubiquitous expression of NOX4, the promoter activities of the human
NOX4gene were analyzed by reporter assays.
Although thiazolidinediones (TZDs) are potent promoters of adipogenesis
in the preadipocyte, they induce apoptosis in several other cell types,
such as cancer cells, endothelial cells and T-lymphocytes. In this study,
we investigated the proapoptotic effect of TZDs in mature 3T3-L1
adipocytes, which express high levels of the peroxisome proliferator-acti-vated receptor-c (PPARc) protein.
The extracellular bga1-encoded b-galactosidase of Hypocrea jecorina
(Trichoderma reesei) was overexpressed under the pyruvat kinase (pki1)
promoter region and purified to apparent homogeneity. The monomeric
enzyme is a glycoprotein with a molecular mass of 118.8 ± 0.5 kDa
(MALDI-MS) and an isoelectric point of 6.6.
Despitedecadesof investigation, theprimary siteof actionof
the prototypical inducers of differentiation, dimethylsulfox-ide andhexamethylene bisacetamide (HMBA), has not been
delineated.During studies designed to analyzecis-acting
elements responsible for induction of stage-specific globin
genes, we discovered the capacity of HMBA and dimethyl-sulfoxide toenhance the expressionof transiently transfected
reporter genes derived from globin and nonglobin gene
promoters, prominently innonerythroid3T3Swiss cells....
Several oncogenic proteins are known to influence cellular
glycosylation. In particular, transfection of codon 12 point
mutated H-Ras increases CMP-Neu5Ac: Galb1,4GlcNAc
a2,6-sialyltransferase I (ST6Gal I) activity in rodent
fibroblasts. Given that Ras mediates its effects through at
least three secondary effector pathways (Raf, RalGEFs and
PI3K) and that transcriptional control ofmouse ST6Gal I is
achieved by the selective use of multiple promoters, we
attempted to identifywhichof these parameters are involved
in linking the Ras signal to ST6Gal I gene transcription in
mouse fibroblasts. ...
The Wnt pathway controls biological processes via the regulation of target
gene expression. The expression of direct Wnt target genes, e.g.cyclin D1
and MYC, is activated by the transcription factor TCF, which binds to
specific sequence motifs in the promoter. Indirect target genes are regulated
via transcription regulators, which are targets of the Wnt pathway.
In this opening chapter, we outline some of the most influential (and
most contested) definitions of health, and approaches to health promotion.
Although some success has been claimed for health promotion interventions,
in general the results to date have been modest: for example, safer
sex campaigns in preventing HIV infection among gay men. In other areas
efforts have been remarkably disappointing, notably in preventing smoking
uptake among adolescents. ‘Health promotion’ is a term which has
been applied to a very wide range of activities performed in many and
Interaction between acidic activation domains and the activator-binding
domains of Swi1 and Snf5 of the yeast SWI⁄SNF chromatin remodeling
complex has previously been characterized in vitro. Although deletion of
both activator-binding domains leads to phenotypes that differ from the
wild-type, their relative importance for SWI⁄SNF recruitment to target
genes has not been investigated.
