  • In this paper, we present a system that automatically extracts the pros and cons from online reviews. Although many approaches have been developed for extracting opinions from text, our focus here is on extracting the reasons of the opinions, which may themselves be in the form of either fact or opinion. Leveraging online review sites with author-generated pros and cons, we propose a system for aligning the pros and cons to their sentences in review texts.

  • Chemical reactions (abiotic reactions) are “classical” chemical reactions that are not mediated by bacteria. They may include reaction processes such as precipitation, hydrolysis, complexation, elimination, substitution etc. that transform chemicals to other chemicals and potentially alter their phase/state (solid, liquid, gas, dissolved). Precipitation is the removal of ions from solution by the formation of insoluble compounds, i.e. a solid-phase precipitate. Hydrolysis is a process of chemical reaction by the addition of water.

  • They give sodium tail currents with relative longterm constants (Wright, et al., 1988). At lower doses more suble repetitive behavior is seen (Brodie and Aldridge, 1982). As with type I pyrethroids, the primary action is on the central nervous system, since symptoms correlate well with brain concentrations (Rickard and Brodie, 1985). As might be expected, both classes of parathyroid produce large increases in brain glucose utilization (Cremer et al. 1983).

  • The internode of solid bamboo has significantly higher ash, 1% NaOH, alcohol- toluene and hot water solubles than the nodes [Mabilangan et al. 2002]. However, differences between the major chemical composition of node and internode fraction of bamboo are small [Scurlock 2000]; neither the number of nodes nor the length of internode segments would be critical to the utilization of bamboo for energy conversion, chemical production, or as a building material. Fujji et al. [1993] investigated the chemistry of the immature culm of a moso- bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens Mazel).

  • PBgC’s financial assistance is not automatic. a plan must follow certain procedures to obtain financial assistance. First, it must notify PBgC and the plan’s participants that it is insolvent. Second, it must inform participants of their statutorily guaranteed benefit levels. next, it must apply for financial assistance with the PBgC. PBgC must then verify the insolvency and determine the level of financial assistance it will provide. This level depends on the amount of contributions and withdrawal liability payments the plan is receiving, if any.

  • In this paper we examine whether and how accounting information about a firm manifests in its cost of capital, despite the forces of diversification. We build a model that is consistent with the CAPM and explicitly allows for multiple securities whose cash flows are correlated. We demonstrate that the quality of accounting information can influence the cost of capital, both directly and indirectly. The direct effect occurs because higher quality disclosures affect the firm’s assessed covariances with other firms’ cash flows, which is non-diversifiable.

  • Our work is almost exclusively with banks and financial services companies in local markets, in western states markets, nationally and even abroad. We see what works, where it works, and why it works in one market, and maybe not in others. When we find anything new that has the potential to work better than our baseline programs, we incorporate the technique into our toolkit of tactics and menu of options for participants. We do not represent any particular sales system and are not bound to represent any particular sales management company. Rather than being tied...

  • The approach to assessing climate risks and im- pacts consists of the following sequential steps: (1) determining climate variables at the level of the city/watershed through downscaling techniques; (2) estimating impacts and vulnerability through hydrometeorological modeling, scenario analysis, and GIS mapping; and (3) preparing a damage/ loss assessment and identification/prioritization of adaptation options. As a first step, each of the city-level studies considered two IPCC scenarios, a high- and a low- emissions scenario, 4 and estimated climate risks to 2050.

  • In many countries, both those with and without land available for expan- sion, there is large scope to increase productivity on currently cultivated land, something that could have major impacts on poverty. Broadly, countries with relatively little or no available additional suitable land for cultivation (for exam- ple, Burundi, the Arab Republic of Egypt, India, Malawi, and Rwanda) are on the left half of the graph, and those with relatively more land (for example, Argentina, Brazil, Russia, Sudan, Uruguay, and Zambia) are on the right.

  • In these experiments the choices involved gambles for everyday objects (e.g. a coffee mug). It has been suggested that observed differences are due to an asymmetry of preferences between losses and gains, which might be exacerbated by age. Finally, both younger and older subjects participated in beauty contest games, in which strategic thinking plays a central role. In each case the experiments were taken from the literature allowing us to focus on age differences rather than on theories behind the experiments....

  • One concern about the voluntary offset market as it continues to grow is the possibility that suppliers may sell the same reductions to multiple buyers, because there is no central authority to track their transactions. Related to this, questions can arise in some instances about who “owns” emission reductions and who in fact has the right to sell them. In some cases, multiple parties may conceivably lay claim to the same reduction.
