All companies, including registered investment companies (funds), incur risk as a part of doing
business. In order to achieve investment returns, a fund must incur investment risks, and the risk
of loss arising from daily operations is an unavoidable by-product of any business, including the
Fund advisers have long been responsible for managing funds’ risks.
Commercial facilities, such as office buildings, factories, warehouses, or other facilities that do
not provide goods or services directly to the public are only subject to the ADA’s requirements
for new construction and alterations.
Businesses need to know two important deadlines for compliance. Starting March 15, 2011,
businesses must comply with the ADA’s general nondiscrimination requirements, including
provisions related to policies and procedures and effective communication.
A guide to assessment in early childhood: Infancy to age eight is designed to be useful for all early childhood professionals/providers-from those who want to learn basic information about an early childhood assessment system, to those who have responsibility for selecting tools and conducting assessments.
The license fee itself is defended by many as a guarantee of autonomy and the means to
provide a direct link between broadcasters and the public. As Papathanassopoulos (2007:
156) argues, in contrast to the license fee, “Direct public or government funding may,
in one way or another, seriously affect public broadcasters’ independence, or in the best
case, the public perception of their independence.
Therapeutic Patient Education (TPE) enables people with chronic diseases to
manage their illness and yields benefits in both health and financial terms. Many
health care providers, however, lack the skills to provide their patients with such an
education. The Regional Office therefore convened a working group to prepare a
document specifying the content of programmes for teaching health care providers
to provide TPE. The Working Group comprised doctors, nurses, other health care
providers and educators from countries throughout the European Region.
Chapter 5 provides knowledge of the early years of childhood. This chapter includes contents: The place of childhood in the life span, cultures differ in dividing the life span into phases, childhood as a cultural construction, diversity in children's lives...
In the circumstances, any subsequent, and surely final, effort can
only modestly look back, marvelling that the series is still here, and
not unreasonably congratulating itself on having provided an initial
outlet for what turned, over the years, into some of the distinctive
voices and topics in literary studies.
This study analyzes and provides empirical tests of early warning indicators
of banking and currency crises in emerging economies. The aim is
to identify key empirical regularities in the run-up to banking and currency
crises that would enable officials and private market participants
to recognize vulnerability to financial crises at an earlier stage. This, in
turn, should make it easier to motivate the corrective policy actions that
would prevent such crises from actually taking place.
The Power of Accounting: What the Numbers Mean and How to Use Them
provides a highly readable text for non-financial managers. It
explores accounting’s uses and limitations in the management
process. The text is intended for users of accounting information
as opposed to preparers. It focuses on aiding the reader in
understanding what accounting numbers mean, what they do not
mean, when and how they can be used for decision making and
planning and when they cannot.
Larry Lewis is a Professor of Accounting at the University of
Portland’s Pamplin School of Business, USA.
There is beginning to be a considerable body of resources on how to
manage the professional practice that goes beyond the homogenous texts
on practice management that rather imply that they are all the same and
that there is one route to success. Two early contributions, which broke
the mould, are undoubtedly Donald Sch€on’s 1983 book, The Reflective
Practitioner, and David Maister’s work, especially his 1993 book, Managing
the Professional Service Firm.
Psychiatric diagnosis requires doctors to make judgements based on their
understanding of their patients’ mental states and emotional processes, and relate these to a
‘normal’ or ‘healthy standard’. Clearly this exercise is (at the very least) much more difficult
where doctor and patient do not share a language, a set of concepts around the nature of
mind and emotion, and an understanding of what behaviours fall within and without each
others’ cultural norms.
The study aims at indicating determinants for Thai mutual fund growth based on two disciplines. The
first discipline is the exploratory of Thai mutual funds via descriptive study or fact finding which
indicates Thai mutual funds structure in terms of product concentration and the competitive situation as
discussed in the last section. The second discipline is econometric model namely fixed effect model
testing whether management fees, administrative fees, and other determinants affect the mutual fund
Low intakes of fiber tend to reflect low intakes of whole
grains, fruits, and vegetables. Low intakes of calcium
tend to reflect low intakes of milk and milk products. Low
intakes of vitamins A (as carotenoids) and C and magne
sium tend to reflect low intakes of fruits and vegetables.
Selecting fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lowfat and
fatfree milk and milk products in the amounts suggested
by the USDA Food Guide and the DASH Eating Plan will
provide adequate amounts of these nutrients.
In this vein UNCTADs contribution will continue to focus on: the benefits and challenges
arising from international trade in insurance services, regulatory challenges arising from
domestic implementation as well as in relation to the GATS, measures to overcome
supply side constraints and build domestic capacity in the insurance sector, the role of the
Government both as a regulator and a provider of insurance services, likely impacts of
emerging global and technological trends in the insurance sector and in relation to the
GATS assisting developing countries in their ongoing and evolv...
Works of art are inscribed by the artist on the surface of reality not for their own sake. They are
created in order to produce in the spectator those precisely modulated feelings whose constituent
elements are represented by the letters, words and sentences of the aesthetic alphabet. We go out
of our way to experience such modified feelings, both positive and negative, because they can
stand in for genuine phenomena in such a way that, in being contemplated, they give rise to
genuine and subtle pleasure. This pleasure has the advantage that it is in a certain sense cut...
The Fund has not elected to early adopt IFRS,
therefore it will adopt IFRS effective October 1, 2014.
The Fund expects to report its financial results for the
six month period ending March 31, 2015 prepared on
an IFRS basis. The Fund will also provide
comparative data on an IFRS basis, including an
opening balance sheet as at October 1, 2013. Further
revisions by the AcSB to the IFRS adoption date for
investment companies are possible.
The Manager has not identified any changes that will

The Texas Women’s Health Program (WHP) provides family planning and preventive
health services to low-income women under a Medicaid family planning waiver program. As of
February 2012, the WHP provided care to about 127,000 low-income Texas women.
program cost was $35.6 million in 2011, of which the federal government paid $32 million –
about 90% of the total cost -- while the state paid $3.6 million.
At the global level, the relationship between population and environ-
mental impact is not easy to test in a way that leads to reliable and non-
spurious estimates. This is because of the lack of data on environmental
degradation covering a sufficiently large number of countries over a suffi-
ciently large period of time. It is for this reason that studies have tended to
focus on CO2 emissions and energy use, for which cross-country and time-
series data are available.
For Senegal, whose SWAp provided a promising
locus for donor coordination in health in 2005
(see Box 1), the situation is increasingly complex:
having been a priority in every development plan
to date, SRH as an integrated concept does not
appear in either the current Document de Politique
Économique et Sociale 2011–2015 (Economic and
Social Policy Document 2011–2015; Senegal’s
third poverty-reduction strategy paper) or
the Plan National de Développement Sanitaire
2009–2018 (National Health Development Plan
There is both controversy and confusion concerning appropriate stockpiling in order to be prepared for disasters. If we are to be self-sufficient and “on our own” for prolonged time periods, there must be some level of critical supplies stored on-site. Most documents acting as checklists, or that address LTC preparedness, will site the need for such stockpiling, but neglect to give recommendations or provide specific numbers (Department of Health and Human Services 2007; Montgomery County Advanced Practice Center for Public Health Preparedness and Response 2007; Krause 2007).
