The goal of the conference was to share lessons learned in Africa about men’s participation
in reproductive health in order to develop new or enhance existing approaches for French-
speaking African countries. Men in French-speaking African countries play key roles in
reproductive health, whether as individual family members or as decision-makers at com-
munity and national levels. Most service delivery and information campaigns, however,
focus on women.
The remarkable political changes that have
taken place within the European Region in
the last five years have greatly enlarged the
potential for international collaboration. The
First European Conference on Environment
and Health was held in Frankfurt in December
1989, when these dramatic changes
were at their height. Ministers from 29 countries,
and the European Commission, approved
a Charter that set out the principles,
strategy and priorities for achieving an effective
approach to the many areas in which environmental
conditions may significantly affect
An understanding of the principles of bookkeeping
and accounting is essential for anyone
who is interested in a successful career in business.
The purpose of bookkeeping and accounting
is to provide information concerning the financial
affairs of a business. This information
is needed by owners, managers, creditors, and
An individual who earns a living by recording the financial activities
of a business is known as a bookkeeper, while the process of classifying and summarizing business transactions and interpreting their effects is
accomplished by the accountant.
The purpose of this book is to bring together readings which explore the culture of
learning in a mathematics classroom. These readings show how knowledge of this
culture assists teachers and learners to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics
and to address concerns of social justice and the need for equity.
The purpose of this book is to consider the woman and her health needs in her
position in her life cycle, her family, and society. Women have historically
been ‘‘the other’’ in medical care. Sigmund Freud and Erik Erikson considered
women’s development to be deviant from the normal, which was men’s.
Although the Greeks Hippocrates and Soranus wrote about women’s medical
needs, women’s health concerns have either been considered abnormal, or,
traditionally, been condensed to their gynecological functions and disorders,
perhaps because these were their only valued functions....
Nomenclature: The terms active agent
and pharmacon designate substances
that are capable of modifying life processes
irrespective of whether the effects
elicited may benefit or harm the
organisms concerned. By this definition,
a toxin is also a pharmacon. Taken in a
narrower sense, a pharmacon means a
substance that is used for therapeutic
purposes. An unequivocal term for such
a substance is medicinal drug.
A comprehensive comparative treatment of six instances of
time-limited interests in land as encountered in fourteen
European jurisdictions. The survey explores the commercial or
social origins of each legal institution concerned and highlights
their enforceability against third parties, their content and their
role in land development.
An important purpose of the Financial Report is to help citizens and policymakers assess
whether current fiscal policy is sustainable and, if it is not, the urgency and magnitude of policy
reforms necessary to make it sustainable. A sustainable policy is one where the ratio of debt held
by the public to GDP (the debt-to-GDP ratio) is stable in the long run. Sustainability concerns
only whether long-run revenues and expenditures are in balance; it does not concern fairness or
efficiency implications of the reforms necessary to achieve sustainability.
The Wiley Series in the Psychology of Crime, Policing and Law publishes single
author and edited reviews of emerging areas of contemporary research.
The purpose of this series is not merely to present research findings in a clear
and readable form, but also to bring out their implications for both practice
and policy. The series will be useful not only to psychologists, but also to all
those concerned with crime detection and prevention, policing and the judicial
Another investment vehicle under development is the Mexican version of a REIT, the Fideicomisos
de Infraestructura y Bienes Raices (FIBRA). Under Mexican law, the purpose of a FIBRA must be
to acquire or construct real property. Property owned by the FIBRA must be leased for a minimum
of four years before the FIBRA may sell it. First allowed under Mexican law in 1994, FIBRAs
have not taken hold in Mexico. Efforts to create them have stalled primarily due to taxation
concerns and because much of the private land owned in Mexico is still controlled by individuals
The letter of intention to audit provides a general outline as to the function or purpose
of audits conducted by the Office, indicating that the inspection will have a focus on
areas and systems within the company where personal data is held and processed. If
there are any areas or issues of particular concern in advance of the audit, these
may also be highlighted in the letter. In some cases an indication will be given as to
why the organisation has been selected for audit.
In the event of the audit of a large organisation, particular areas may...

Perioperative safety of two-team simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty in the obese patient
Benjamin C Taylor*1, Craig Dimitris1, John G Mowbray1, Steven T Gaines2 and Robert N Steensen2
Abstract Background: Although the rates of perioperative morbidity and mortality with simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty remain a concern, multiple studies have shown the procedure to be safe in selected patient populations.
Here follow some guidelines for solution of problems concerning sequences and power series. It should
be emphasized that my purpose has never been to write an alternative textbook on these matters. If
I would have done so, I would have arranged the subject differently. Nevertheless, it is my hope that
the present text can be a useful supplement to the ordinary textbooks, in which one can find all the
necessary proofs which are skipped here.
The purpose of the Furniture Design Critic program is to develop a model of cri-
tiquing that can lead to better teaching and learning of design. However, we are
not — in the first place — concerned with answering the question: “What is ped-
agogically the best method of critiquing?” Nor are we concerned with constructing
a model to predict which critiquing methods will be the most effective for which
students under which conditions.
In considering the subject which forms the chief topic of this paper, we are not primarily concerned with the
question of settlement, intimately related though it be to the larger problem of colonial control.
The purpose of this volume is to give some guidelines for the student concerning the solution of
problems in the theory of Functions in Several Variables.
The intension is not to write a textbook, but instead to give some hints of how to solve problems in this
fi eld. It therefore cannot replace any given textbook, but it may be used as a supplement to such a book
on Functions in Several Variables.
This report presents the findings of the Behavioural Risks and HIV Sero-Status Survey (BSS) for the Central Serowe Sub-district and Kweneng District in Botswana. The purpose of the survey was to determine the knowledge, attitudes, sexual behaviours, practices, prevention, care and support issues concerning HIV/AIDS among the population in the Central Serowe Sub-district and Kweneng District. Specifically, the survey quantified HIV prevalence, sexual risk behaviours and other practices among adults and children....
The current report, requested by CSD and overseen by UNWater,
was drafted by a Working Group led by UNEP. While
the main purpose of the UN-Water report to the 16th session
of the CSD in 2008 was to take stock of the development and
implementation of IWRM and Water Efficiency Plans, from
the JPOI, the purpose of this report is to focus on progress in
the application of integrated approaches to the development,
management and use of water resources. The report addresses
planning, implementation as well as the possible outcomes
and impacts of integrated approaches.
It is my purpose in these volumes to write a History of Cuba. The title may imply either the land and its
natural conditions, or the people and the nation which inhabit it. It in fact implies both, and to both I shall
address myself, though it will appropriately be with the latter rather than with the former that the narrative
will be most concerned. For it is with Cuba as with other countries: In the last supreme analysis the people
make the history of the land. Apart from the people, it is true, the Island of Cuba is of unusual interest. There
Although cost-effectiveness is one guiding rationale for deter-
mining resource allocations for expanding (or restricting)
access to CAM and TM, additional societal benefits and costs,
such as effects on biodiversity, must also be considered. CAM
and TM could provide a rationale for conserving species, but
overharvesting of endangered species for medicinal purposes is
also a concern.
