Significantly lower salivary OC concentrations in both healthy and diseased smokers than
their non-smoker counterparts were reported by Özçaka et al. (2011b). The detrimental
effects of smoking may explain these decreases in salivary levels of OC in smokers also
indicating a deficiency in tissue response to the injuries in smoker subjects. The differences
in patient numbers and/or the possible differences in the disease activity states may explain
the differences in findings of the present study and the previous ones.

A further issue is whether fiscal policy problems have lead to higher long-term
inflation expectations. The bold line in Figure 3, depicting long-term inflationary
expectations, as extracted from long-term index linked bond prices, indicates that this
was not the case. After an initial increase until May, break-even inflation decreased to
its initial level in October, and remained stable thereafter.

Currently, poverty is broadly defined by the lack of public services and
the lack of opportunities to generate income, as well as the inability of
people to act in their own interests, to express their needs through con-
crete proposals, and to organize collectively to implement solutions.
Poverty constitutes a challenge to the peaceful coexistence of people and
represents ignorance of their social, economic, and political rights. How-
ever, creating permanent jobs and implementing productive projects for
poverty reduction are not simple tasks....
We have found that social funds can be a unique and invaluable instru-
ment in reaching people at the local level directly and in capitalizing the
energies of a wide range of partners: public sector, private sector, NGOs,
and the local communities themselves. Looking back on the past ten
years, the scale and scope of our activity has been substantial. Looking
forward to the next ten years, it is crucial that we use the lessons of
experience to ensure that we deploy this instrument as effectively as
possible. So, what have we learned?...
Nicotine is a main water-soluble alkaloid being contained in the tobacco plant (Nicotiana tabacum), which acts as an inducing compound for smoking-dependence. Twelve kinds of nicotine metabolites are known in rats . Among them, cotinine is the major metabolite of nicotine; the half-life (T1/2) of cotinine is much longer (10–20 h) than that of nicotine (24–84 min). The qualitative analysis of cotinine in urine and saliva is being thus carried out as indicators for smoking during its abstinence therapy and for confirming passive smoking.
Analytical chemistry is the study of the separation, identification, and quantification of the chemical components of natural and artificial materials. Qualitative analysis gives an indication of the identity of the chemical species in the sample and quantitative analysis determines the amount of one or more of these components. The separation of components is often performed prior to analysis
The development of performance indicators to measure progress, both quantitative and qualitative, should be
undertaken with care. If the skills to develop performance indicators are not part of the skill set of the
proposed project team, then the project manager may wish to include ‘indicator development’ skills in the
‘Resource’ section and in the ‘Risks’ section of the Implementation Plan. Performance indicators may be
developed for both the policy as a whole, and for each phase or activity.
When you complete this chapter you should be able to: Understand the three time horizons and which models apply for each; explain when to use each of the four qualitative models; apply the naive, moving-average, exponential smoothing, and trend methods; compute three measures of forecast accuracy; develop seasonal indices; conduct a regression and correlation analysis; use a tracking signal.
Since May we have seen a succession of relatively weak output indicators. As I noted earlier, the second
release of the GDP figures for the first quarter of 2011 confirmed the picture of a stagnant economy. Less
importantly, from my perspective, there has been a range of relatively weak qualitative business surveys. I
say less importantly because these measures typically are not individually very informative except during
periods of sharply falling output. Recent hard data, however, include the figures of industrial production in
