  • ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS It is one thing to think that you know a subject but quite another to confidently write it down, secure in the knowledge that no one will challenge you later. I definitely fall into the former category. I assert that there are no experts in completion design, but there are experts in specialities within completion design. It is to many of these experts that I have turned for guidance and verification.

  • We report the results of experiments on economic decisions with two populations, one of healthy elderly individuals (average age 82) and one of younger students (average age 20). We examine confidence, decisions under uncertainty, differences between willingness to pay and willingness to accept and the theory of mind (strategic thinking). Our findings indicate that the older adults’ decision behavior is similar to that of young adults, contrary to the notion that economic decision making is impaired with age.

  • An organic farm plan is central to the certification process. The farm plan describes production, handling, and record-keeping systems, and demonstrates to certifiers an understanding of organic practices for a specific crop. The process of developing the plan can be valuable in terms of anticipating potential issues and challenges, and fosters thinking of the farm as a whole system. Soil, nutrient, pest, and weed management are all interrelated on organic farms and must be managed in concert to be successful.

Although the document is arranged in a logical sequence, it is not necessary to use the units in order. • In her first book, Halimah (Emi) takes the reader for a dynamic and exciting journey of self-analysis. By using examples from her own life, she explains the problems we all encounter in life and helps the reader “let go … let loose … live and let live”. The “triple F effect” is a new, absolutely genius approach to philosophical questions that will change our attitude towards life in general. As an interpreter and cultural mediator, I have a special interest in human nature, ways of thinking and I always have a lot of questions, a lot of which were answered...

  • A few hundred years ago when farming was king, the small firm share of employment was high. This shrank as we entered the Industrial Revolution (think manufacturing and heavy industry), and it expanded as service industries increased (think cleaning services and pet care). However, over the past few decades the share of small firm employment in certain industries has been undergoing a reversal: for example, small firms’ employment share has decreased in retail trade while it has increased in manufacturing.

  • The truth sets of two propositions p and q are shown in Figure 2.6. Also marked on the diagram are the various logical possibilities for these two statements. The reader should pick out in this diagram the truth sets of the statements p ∨ q, p ∧ q, ¬p, and ¬q. The connection between a statement and its truth set makes it pos- sible to “translate” a problem about compound statements into a prob- lem about sets. It is also possible to go in the reverse direction. Given a problem about sets, think of the universal set as being a set of logical possibilities and think of a...

  • A necessary caveat is that we consider a specific LSM, comparing it to a specific model of internal queues. Other LSMs, perhaps associated with different settlement rules, may yield different outcomes. For example, one could think of a system where all payments (even those sent to the RTGS stream) are first passed through the LSM. Then, if LSM settlement does not happen instantly because a cycle has not formed, the urgent RTGS payments are immediately settled by transferring liquidity.

It often helps to make a list of questions before an appointment. To help remember what your doctor says, you may take notes or ask whether you may use a tape recorder. You may also want to have a family member or friend with you when you...
