“Take time to work - it is the price of success Take time to think - it is the source of power Take time to play - it is the secret of perpetual youth Take time to read - it is the fountain of wisdom Take time to be friendly - it is the road to happiness Take time to love and be loved - it is the nourishment of the soul Take time to share - it...
Making money demands effort, whether working for a salary
or investing. You get nothing for nothing. Anyone who tells
you the stock market is an absolute doddle, and money for old
rope, is either a conman or a fool. And the proof of that became
very clear with the stock market depressions starting in 2007.
We began both of our previous books with a quote from
Peter Drucker—considered by many to be the foremost
management thinker of the 20th century. So naturally
we were thrilled to have the great privilege of meeting
Peter Drucker and speaking on the same stage during the Delphi
Group’s Collaborative Commerce Summit in June 2001.
For our study we focused on those industries where intangibles play in general a major or
dominant role (general relevance of intangibles). As we want to focus on the value rele-
vance of reporting on intangibles and as we want to examine in further studies the impact on
stock market returns we concentrate on corporations quoted on the German capital market.
Therefore, we selected the five sections „Media“, „Technology“, „Pharmaceuticals / Health
Care“, „Software“ and „Telecommunications“ from the CDAX industry indices.

Quote from Ross Anderson (text “Security Engineering”)
Its function is to control which principals (persons, processes, machines, …) have access to which resources in the system -- which files they can read, which programs they can execute, and how they share data with other principals, and so on....
We have not named people, agencies, or projects in this book. The authors have
done this both to honor the privacy of conversations and to reflect the fact that
any comment we quote represents a widely-shared viewpoint rather than that
of a single individual. The Listening Project (through which these conversations
occurred) was not evaluating individual projects or agencies, but instead focused on
understanding the long-term, cumulative effects of different types of international
aid efforts on people, communities, and their societies over time. ...

The illicit and covert nature of counterfeiting makes evaluating the exact value of
these markets problematic and to be regarded with some caution (OECD, 1998; Dixon
and Greenhalgh, 2002). However, estimates of the economic cost of counterfeiting to
industry and government offer some indication of the size of the markets. Quoting
European Commission figures, the OECD estimated in 1998 that counterfeit goods
were worth between 5-7 per cent of world trade, and had demonstrated 150 per cent
growth in value between 1990 and 1995 (OECD, 1998, p.23).
There is also a sub-set of private investors: people
who become shareholders in quoted companies by
virtue of being shareholder employees of a
company that goes through flotation; by holding
performance-related share options; or by
purchasing shares via company-sponsored
schemes. In all cases, these shares may, ultimately,
become ordinary (tradable) shares, although
companies may impose restrictions on when
shares can be bought or sold.
Unusually, the UK offers companies and private
investors a range of tax-efficient investment
The idea of collaborative science, and of appropriate attribution to previous work, vary greatly from culture
to culture. In some cultures, the reference to another researcher’s concepts must be cited even when not
quoting a previously published work directly. In other cultures, copying entire sections of another’s work and
incorporating them into one’s own is an acceptable way of demonstrating the influence of that prior work.
The topics discussed in this chapter are equity markets and stock valuation. After completing this unit, you should be able to: Understand how share prices depend on future dividends and dividend growth, be able to compute share prices using the dividend growth model, understand how share markets work, understand how share prices are quoted.
Institutional investors are, by some margin, the
most important category of investor to quoted
companies owing to the sheer weight of assets
that they manage and the degree to which they can
invest. It is widely acknowledged that institutional
investors own the vast majority of the UK equity
market. In some cases, institutional investors may
also own nearly all of a company’s issued share

Fair value is “the price that would be received to sell an asset or paid to transfer a liability in an orderly
transaction between market participants at the measurement date.” As a result, the quoted price for a
single unit is used in determining fair value, regardless of how many shares or units are held.
The fair value of an equity security is readily determinable if it meets any of the conditions listed in the
Master Glossary. The determination of whether an equity security has a readily determinable fair value is
made as of each statement of financial position...
One of the outcomes quoted companies aim for
from their investor relations activities is to attract
liquidity – frequency of trading in their shares.
Profiling and explaining the company to the
investment community on a continual basis can
assist in creating greater awareness of a company
Depending on the availability of shares, this can
then assist a company in attracting pools of buyers
and sellers and the potential for higher frequency
in the trading of its shares.
Investors in quoted companies come in all shapes
and sizes with a multiplicity of requirements, risk
tolerances, investment styles and processes.
Indeed no two investors are the same and may
actually approach the purchase of a company’s
shares from equal and opposite directions. It is
fortunate that this is the case as it takes buyers
and sellers to make a market. From an investor
relations perspective, it is therefore important that
quoted companies know their investors.
All quoted companies should seek to have a
diverse range of investors on their share register.
Typically, the majority will comprise a range of
institutional investors who will invest according to a
range of criteria, in the main dictated by the
structure and requirements of the funds they
manage. Institutions tend to be longer-term
investors, whereas private investors, who will
comprise the balance of the register, often have
Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is an incurable, degenerative, and terminal disease with few
therapeutic options . It is a complex disease influenced by a range of genetic,
environmental, and other factors . Recently, Jack et al. demonstrated the value
of shared data in AD biomarker research. A New York Times article on the role of
data sharing, in the advancement of AD research, quotes John Trojanowski at the Uni-
versity of Pennsylvania Medical School: “It’s not science the way most of us have prac-
ticed it in our careers.
