  • In this paper, we introduce a method of extending the domain of a random mapping admitting the series expansion. This method is based on the convergence of certain random series. Some conditions under which a random mapping can be extended to apply to all $X$ - valued random variables will be presented. • Packets transmitted by AARP that determine if a randomly selected node ID is being used by another node in a nonextended AppleTalk network. If the node ID is not being used, the sending node uses that node ID. If the node ID is being used, the sending node chooses a different ID and send more AARP probe packets. See also AARP.

  • These are charts from Ganymede Chariot used in a lab based on FIFO (no queuing). TCP traffic was going all over the chart. With nothing controlling the traffic, throughput is horrible and completely unpredictable! With Traffic Shaping, Frame Relay DE bit setting, Class-Based Weighted Fair Queuing (CBWFQ), and Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED) enabled, the network is much more well behaved. We’ll discuss CBWFQ and WRED in the Queuing module. In this section we’ll look at techniques for Classification and Marking.

  • Let A be an n × n matrix, whose entries are independent copies of a centered random variable satisfying the subgaussian tail estimate. We prove that the operator norm of A−1 does not exceed Cn3/2 with probability close to 1. 1. Introduction Let A be an n × n matrix, whose entries are independent, identically distributed random variables. The spectral properties of such matrices, in particular invertibility, have been extensively studied (see, e.g. [M] and the survey [DS]).

  • Solving the system of equations describing the stationary operation of a two-mode random microlaser we have found the transformation of saturated values of mode intensity when laser parameters as gain and loss coefficients as well as field coupling, photon hopping coefficients vary. From obtained results we determined which parameter takes the most important role for stationary operation of random microlasers.

  • Mastering the concepts of probability can cast new light on situations in which randomness and chance appear to rule. With an emphasis on why probability works and how it can be applied, Henk Tijms introduces the reader to the world of probability in an informal way. Lotteries and casino games provide a natural source of motivation, and he carefully discusses these with many worked examples to illustrate the key concepts from probability theory. Henk Tijms has been a professor in Operations Research at the Vrije University in Amsterdam since 1976.

  • Background: Signal and System Theory 2.1 INTRODUCTION The power spectral density arises from signal analysis of deterministic signals, and random processes, and is required to be evaluated over both the finite and infinite time intervals. While signal analysis for the finite case, for example, the integral on a finite interval of a finite summation of bounded signals, causes few problems, signal analysis for the infinite case is more problematic. For example, it can be the case that the order of the integration and limit operators cannot be interchanged.

  • MANET is an autonomous system of mobile routers (and associated hosts) connected by wireless links--the union of which form an arbitrary graph. The routers are free to move randomly and organize themselves arbitrarily; thus, the network's wireless topology may change rapidly and unpredictably. Such a network may operate in a standalone fashion.

  • We study random surfaces which arise as height functions of random perfect matchings (a.k.a. dimer configurations) on a weighted, bipartite, doubly periodic graph G embedded in the plane. We derive explicit formulas for the surface tension and local Gibbs measure probabilities of these models. The answers involve a certain plane algebraic curve, which is the spectral curve of the Kasteleyn operator of the graph. For example, the surface tension is the Legendre dual of the Ronkin function of the spectral curve.

  • Further, the average serial correlation in sales changes for our sample firms is .17 which is also approximately consistent with a random walk. The assumption is not critical to most of our results (the major exception is that earnings is a random walk). Even if sales follow an autoregressive process in first differences, accruals still offset the negative serial I correlation in operating cash flow changes induced by inventory and working capital financing policies.

  • Computer main memory comes in two principal varieties: random-access memory or RAM and read-only memory or ROM. RAM can be read and written to anytime the CPU commands it, but ROM is pre-loaded with data and software that never changes, therefore the CPU can only read from it. ROM is typically used to store the computer's initial start-up instructions. In general, the contents of RAM are erased when the power to the computer is turned off, but ROM retains its data indefinitely. In a PC, the ROM contains a specialized program called the BIOS that orchestrates loading the computer's operating...
