  • Individual differences that have consequences for work behaviors (e.g., job performance) are of great concern for organizations, both public and private. General mental ability has been a popular, although much debated, construct in Industrial, Work, and Organizational (IWO) Psychology for almost 100 years. Individuals differ on their endowments of a critical variable—intelligence—and differences on this variable have consequences for life outcomes.

  • In 2008, the price of green power for residential customers in utility programs ranged from -1.0¢/kWh (a savings compared to standard service) to 8.8¢/kWh above standard electricity rates, with an average premium of 1.8¢/kWh and median of 1.5¢/kWh. These premiums have been adjusted to account for any fuel-cost exemptions granted to green power program participants. 16 In 2008, the utility programs with the lowest premiums for energy derived from new renewable sources had premiums ranging from -1.0¢/kWh (a savings) to 0.9¢/kWh. On average, consumers spend about $5.

  • Still life drawings offer a great opportunity to learn and practice a variety of drawing skills, including developing form, applying shading, and using perspective. Still life compositions traditionally depict a carefully arranged grouping of a number of household objects, such as fruit, vegetables, glassware, or pottery—all of which offer a wide range of textures, sizes, and shapes.

  • The Recommendations refer to the marketing of products and services. They do not refer explicitly to the promotion of brands (as distinct from products and services); however, as certain brands and organizations are clearly associated with products or services whose marketing could fall within the scope of the Recommendations, efforts to restrict marketing in this area also need to consider how brands are marketed. Advertising is only one form of marketing among many, including sponsorship and product placement.

  • In segmenting markets most researchers use a single set of basis variables that have ranged from demographics to psychographics to product category related attitudes to product related behaviors to derived importances from conjoint exercises to latent structures, depending on the era and the proclivities of the researcher. Yet, it seems quite restrictive to limit the basis for segmentation to only one type of variable. Buyers may use many criteria for determining their response to the selling proposition in a category.

  • Cryptographic hash functions play a fundamental role in modern cryptography. While related to conventional hash functions commonly used in non-cryptographic computer applications – in both cases, larger domains are mapped to smaller ranges – they differ in several important aspects. Our focus is restricted to cryptographic hash functions (hereafter, simply hash functions), and in particular to their use for data integrity and message authentication.

  • NONLINEAR MODELS AND RELATED TOPICS We now apply the general methods of Part III to study specific nonlinear models that often arise in applications. Many nonlinear econometric models are intended to explain limited dependent variables. Roughly, a limited dependent variable is a variable whose range is restricted

  • FlexWave MMW 100 is a point-to-point millimeter wave transmission system that operates in the licensed 71GHz to 86GHz spectrum and provides fiber-speed wireless Line of Sight (LOS) communications links within a 1 – 6 km range. The MMW 100 features a 10” lens instead of a 2’ antenna making the product suitable to mount on electric poles and any other medium without the restrictions of high pointing stability. The MMW 100 has the largest beam width allowed by the FCC in the 71-86 GHz band (1.2 deg.)....

  • The role of the placental bed in normal pregnancy and its complications has been intensively investigated for 50 years, following the introduction of a technique for placental bed biopsy. It is now recognized that disorders of the maternal–fetal interface in humans have been implicated in a broad range of pathological conditions, including spontaneous abortion, preterm labor, preterm premature rupture of membranes, preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, abruptio placentae, and fetal death.

  • The health impacts of a range of air pollutants are evaluated in this paper. However, to avoid double counting, it follows Kunzli et al. (1999) in using PM10 (particulate matter with an equivalent aerodynamic diameter of 10 µm or less) as the single indicator (the index pollutant) of the health impacts of common ambient air pollutants, and including non-overlapping health endpoints2 only when calculating the total health impact of air emissions.

  • Among their many provisions, the new law and the stock market rules together require that the board of a publicly traded company be composed of a majority of independent directors and that the board’s audit committee consist entirely of independent directors and have at least one member with financial expertise. They also impose restrictions on the types of services that outside auditors can provide to their audit clients. These wide-ranging legislative and regulatory changes were adopted in response to the widespread outcry that followed these scandals.

  • There is also a sub-set of private investors: people who become shareholders in quoted companies by virtue of being shareholder employees of a company that goes through flotation; by holding performance-related share options; or by purchasing shares via company-sponsored schemes. In all cases, these shares may, ultimately, become ordinary (tradable) shares, although companies may impose restrictions on when shares can be bought or sold. Unusually, the UK offers companies and private investors a range of tax-efficient investment opportunities.

  • A quarter of a century ago, the proportion of older people living in institutions in developed countries had reached an estimated 9% (22). Since that time, there has been a shift in emphasis towards care in the community and the use of less restrictive residential settings. Current rates of use of nursing homes are in the range of 4–7% in countries such as Canada (6.8%), Israel (4.4%), South Africa (4.5%) and the United States (4%).

  • EGovernment means different things for different people. Some simply d efine it as digital governmental information or a way of engaging in digital transactions with customers. For others eGovernment simply consists of the creation of a web site where information about political and governmental issues is presented. These narrow ways of defining and conceptualizing eGovernment restrict the range of opportunities it offers.

  • Clairvoyance means literally nothing more than "clear-seeing," and it is a word which has been sorely misused, and even degraded so far as to be employed to describe the trickery of a mountebank in a variety show. Even in its more restricted sense it covers a wide range of phenomena, differing so greatly in character that it is not easy to give a definition of the word which shall be at once succinct and accurate. It has been called "spiritual vision," but no rendering could well be more misleading than that, for in the vast majority of cases there is no faculty connected with it...

  • I think it was Pascal who said that the last thing an author does in making a book is to discover what to put at the beginning. This discovery is easily made in the present instance. I wish to state that the range of this book, as its title implies, is mainly restricted to the salient points of the historical sketch it attempts to pourtray. To have written a complete History of the Insane in the British Isles would have necessitated the narration of details uninteresting to the general reader.

  • Results of computational complexity exist for a wide range of phrase structure-based grammar formalisms, while there is an apparent lack of such results for dependency-based formalisms. We here adapt a result on the complexity of ID/LP-grammars to the dependency framework. Contrary to previous studies on heavily restricted dependency grammars, we prove that recognition (and thus, parsing) of linguistically adequate dependency grammars is~A/T'-complete.

The region includes three mega-diverse states (Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines); several bio-geographical units (e.g., Malesia, Wallacea, Sundaland, Indo-Burma and the Central Indo-Pacific); and numerous centers of concentration of restricted-range bird, plant and insect species.
