In the Department of Defense, 63 distinct acquisition reform (AR) initiatives were undertaken in the 1989-2002 period. This monograph classifies the initiatives according to various criteria: basic AR theme; relationship to acquisition functions; Army recognition; coverage in the DoD 5000 series; relationship to Under Secretary Aldridge

Immediately after the first drafts of the human genome sequence were reported almost
a decade ago, the importance of genomics and functional genomics studies became
well recognized across the broad disciplines of biological sciences research.
The Elements of Style, when I reexamined it in 1957, seemed to me to contain rich deposits of gold. It was Will Strunk's pan/urn opus, his attempt to cut the vast tangle of English rhetoric down to size and write its rules and principles on the head of a pin. Will himself had hung the tag "little11 on the book
It is an exciting time for the discipline of cognitive
neuroscience. In the past 10 years we have
witnessed an explosion in the development and
advancement of methods that allow us to precisely
examine the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive
processes. Functional magnetic resonance
imaging, for example, has provided markedly improved
spatial and temporal resolution of brain
structure and function, which has led to answers to
new questions, and the reexamination of old questions.
We found that students entering our senior design course who had the expectation of something “real” being built were unprepared for doing prototyping activities or for incorporating a microcontroller component into their designs. We did offer a course in microcontrollers, but it was an elective senior-level course and many students had not taken that course previous to senior design. In spring 2002, the Computer Engineering Steering committee reexamined our goals for the first course in microprocessors and the approach for this book was developed.
Visit informit.com/learningseries for a complete list of available publications. The Addison-Wesley Learning Series is a collection of hands-on programming guides that help you quickly learn a new technology or language so you can apply what you’ve learned right away. Each title comes with sample code for the application or applications built in the text. This code is fully annotated and can be reused in your own projects with no strings attached.
The first part, entitled ‘The replacement of
painting by cinema’, shows how the comparison between painting and cinema reexamines
crucial questions of aesthetics such as the pregnant instant and the crisis of the frame. The
second part, ‘A saturation of glorious signs’ begins by questioning the sublime side of
Antonioni’s cinema before operating a turnaround showing that cinema, at its limit,
rediscovers the essence of painting: acheiropoietos images in Godard’s cinema, icons for
Tarkovski. The sublation becomes that of cinema by itself. ...
Traditional retailing (bricks and mortar) itself has been witness to numerous
realignments; the dawning of the Internet has forced a fundamental reexamination of the
value notion as viewed from the consumer’s perspective. Retailing itself has been
dynamic in its format. From a historical traveling caravan, to a mail order behemoth
created by the ingenuity of Sears, Roebuck & Co.
Both financial market participants and policymakers, such as central banks,
closely follow financial market developments. However, the motivation for their
interest in the financial markets differs in the sense that investors monitor asset
price movements to optimize the risk-return profile on their investments, whereas
central banks use financial market prices to infer information about market ex-
pectations of economic growth and inflation.
“Reengineering is the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of business processes to achieve
dramatic improvements in critical, contemporary measures of performance such as cost, quality, service and
speed.” The key words in the preceding definition are the italicized ones.
BPR advocates that enterprises go back to the basics and reexamine their very roots. It doesn’t believe in
small improvements. Rather it aims at total reinvention. As for results: BPR is clearly not for companies who want a
10% improvement. It is for the ones that need a ten-fold increase.
In the O2– generating flavocytochrome b, the membranebound component of the neutrophil NADPH oxidase, electrons are transported from NADPH to O2 in the following sequence: NADPH fi FAD fi heme b fi O2. Although p-iodonitrotetrazolium (INT) has frequently been used as a probe of the diaphorase activity of the neutrophil flavocytochrome b, the propensity of its radical to interact reversibly with O2 led us to question its specificity. This study was undertaken to reexamine the interaction of INT with the redox components of the neutrophil flavocytochrome b. ...
A perpetual challenge facing city governments is the quality of political leadership.
Eff ective mayors provide a sense of direction and help ensure that all parts of city
government are working in a coordinated and purposeful way with community
support for the city’s goals. Ineff ective mayors leave their cities to drift, allow city
departments and staff to work ineff ectively, and fail to make a connection with
citizens. With increasingly complex problems to address, the need for leadership is
The cave of Tham Khuyen in Lang Son
Province, northeastern Vietnam, has yielded
a large mammalian fauna of probable late
middle Pleistocene date. A series of isolated
hominoid primate teeth, formerly allocated
to the extant orangutan Pongo pygmaeus, has
recently been reexamined and found to represent
more than one species. These specimens
are described in detail in this paper and
are analyzed as follows. Some ofthe teeth are
indeed clearly identifiable as those of Pongo
pygmaeus, but the majority appear to belong
to a species related to the orangutan but not
identical with it....
UMP-CMP kinase catalyses an important step in the
phosphorylationofUTP, CTPanddCTP. It is also involved
in the necessary phosphorylation by cellular kinases of
nucleoside analogs used in antiviral therapies. The reactivity
of human UMP-CMP kinase towards natural substrates
and nucleotide analogs was reexamined. The expression of
the recombinant enzyme and conditions for stability of the
enzyme were improved. Substrate inhibition was observed
for UMP and CMP at concentrations higher than 0.2 mM,
but not for dCMP.
