In working with regulated industries over the past eight years, many EPA regulatory reinvention initiatives
have recognized an emerging and very real redefinition of the manufacturing landscape. Largely, this
movement has arisen in the context of today’s increasingly competitive “immediate” global market,
requiring companies to conceive and deliver products faster, at lower cost, and of better quality than their
many groups and individuals have been motivated to consider the potential for producing ethanol. Across the
country, farmer cooperatives, rural development coalitions, bio-energy advocates and others have gathered to
explore the process and prospects for developing ethanol production facilities. In many cases these efforts have
resulted in the successful development of ethanol plants.
The Lao People’s Democratic Republic National
Growth and Poverty Eradication Strategy (the
equivalent of its Poverty Reduction Strategy) marks
population issues, including SRH and human
immunodeficiency virus (HIV), as national priorities,
while acknowledging limited success in previous
reproductive health initiatives. The current draft
for 2011–2015 is targeted towards achieving the
MDGs, and priority directions are less explicit
in terms of reproductive health (see Box 3).
Investment transactions are accounted for on the
trade date. Realized gains (losses) from the sale of
investments and unrealized appreciation
(depreciation) in the value of investments are
calculated with reference to the average cost of the
related investments which exclude brokerage
commissions and other trading expenses. All net
realized gains (losses), unrealized appreciation
(depreciation) in value, and transaction costs are
attributable to investments and derivative
instruments which are deemed held for trading, and
are included in the Statement of Operations....
This paper presents the design philosophy and initial
design decisions of Herald: a highly scalable global event
notification system that is being designed and built at
Microsoft Research. Herald is a distributed system designed
to transparently scale in all respects, including
numbers of subscribers and publishers, numbers of event
subscription points, and event delivery rates. Event delivery
can occur within a single machine, within a local
network or Intranet, and throughout the Internet.
Yet, despite progress in the identification of problems and the development of
improved methodologies -- and the possibility of regulatory initiatives that feature mandated
environmental accounting -- the field lacks a methodology for evaluating the social and
private benefits of improved environmental accounting. Whether regulators continue to
motivate EA indirectly via outreach to the private sector, or more directly via incentives such
as tax breaks or mandates, private sector resources and regulatory attention should be focused
on initiatives that promise the greatest benefit.
This was the period of significant technology advancement such as the first
automatic plain-paper copier by Xerox in 1959, and the rapid development of
computer technology. Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded Microsoft. This facilitated the
emergence of several project management software companies including Oracle in
1977. An example of a project undertaken during this phase is the Apollo project
initiated in 1960 with the objective of sending man to the moon.
With a solid understanding of the company, its objectives and inherent risks,
the auditor must consider the possible impact of the various risks on the
achievement of business objectives and the likelihood of their occurrence. By
considering both the impact of key risks and the likelihood of occurrence, a
risk profile of the organisation can be developed. The risk profile is presented
to management and the audit committee using a colour-coded heat map that
identifies high, moderate and low risk areas.
In brief, this dissertation presents four major contributions: (1) Regulatory actors affect strat-
egy formation. In particular, and in a situation when a regulator changes from protecting the
firm to promoting change, the consistency between resource allocations and the official con-
cept of corporate strategy decreases when regulatory involvement increases. (2) Internal
alignments are contingent upon the perceived opportunity structure of a regulatory initiative.
Another BSP initiative that addresses the data gap is the Consumer Finance Survey, which
aims to generate, measure and analyse data on the wealth, indebtedness, savings and
investments of Philippine households. At present, the BSP is completing a pilot consumer
finance survey, and it will soon be conducting the full-scale survey in selected regions. This
is one of the initiatives that could shed more light on the role of consumer credit in the
development of the Philippines and in elevating the well-being of its people....
Most of the attention in the literature has been focused on the initial
decentralization. Tsui and Wang (2004) call fiscal decentralization a “handmaiden” to
China’s growth. Chen (2004) argues that regional and local governments have better
information, and so more control over expenditures, leading to improved efficiency in
government spending, and thus led to more growth.
In addition, the survey looked at the use of third-party cookies1 by commercial web sites.
Although FTC noted improvement over previous surveys, it nonetheless concluded that
the on-line industry’s self-regulatory initiatives were falling short. As a result, a majority
of the FTC commissioners, based on a 3 to 2 vote, recommended legislation to require
commercial web sites not already covered by the Children's Online Privacy Protection
Act (COPPA)2 to implement the four fair information principles.
Based on an exploratory, longitudinal, retrospective case study on the German energy utility
E.ON, the study examines three related research questions. First, we ask if strategy formation
as represented by corporate resource allocations is influenced by regulatory actors. Second,
we explore how strategy formation is impacted in terms of internal alignments of corporate
strategies and structures. And third, we elaborate on the corporation’s externally directed re-
sponse strategies in order to reversely influence its environment.
Mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) phosphorylates
proteins such as eukaryotic initiation factor 4E-binding protein 1 (4E-BP1)
and the S6 kinases. These substrates contain short sequences, termed TOR
signalling (TOS) motifs, which interact with the mTORC1 component rap-tor.
The long uORF-burdened 5¢UTRs of many genes encoding regulatory proteins involved in cell growth and differentiation contain internal ribosomal entry site (IRES) elements. In a previous study we showed that utilization of the weak IRES of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF2) is activated during megakaryocytic differentiation.
Despite expectations born a decade ago, there are only a few successes in stratified
medicine up to now and its implementation proves to be challenging in many aspects.
Numerous factors are considered in making decisions. Indeed the pharmaceutical sector
becomes increasingly aware of the potential benefits of stratified medicine but it seems
inhibited by uncertainties.
The CoE approach permits a number of permutations in terms of the level
of disclosure and enforcement. For example, a listed company may be requested
to disclose whether it is in compliance with individual recommendations of the
code or merely with the code globally. In terms of the enforcement, the ability of
exchanges or other regulators to pursue companies which do not provide
adequate levels of disclosure also varies. In most cases, CoE codes are subject to
some form of regulatory enforcement, but they may also be subject to
enforcement largely by shareholders (e.g.
The referral system is not
functional, and patients often ignore secondary or tertiary care due to the high costs involved. Stock-
outs of drugs and supplies and inadequate HRH availability impact service delivery. Lack of financial and
human resources adversely impacts regulation and quality control. Many services, including those related
to HIV and tuberculosis (TB), are not well integrated into the general health delivery system and
continue to be provided vertically.
