Surface realisation decisions in language generation can be sensitive to a language model, but also to decisions of content selection. We therefore propose the joint optimisation of content selection and surface realisation using Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning (HRL). To this end, we suggest a novel reward function that is induced from human data and is especially suited for surface realisation.

Machine learning is all about making predictions; language is full of complex rich structure. Structured prediction marries these two. However, structured prediction isn’t always enough: sometimes the world throws even more complex data at us, and we need reinforcement learning techniques.
In this paper, we present a reinforcement learning approach for mapping natural language instructions to sequences of executable actions. We assume access to a reward function that deﬁnes the quality of the executed actions. During training, the learner repeatedly constructs action sequences for a set of documents, executes those actions, and observes the resulting reward. We use a policy gradient algorithm to estimate the parameters of a log-linear model for action selection.
We demonstrate a multimodal dialogue system using reinforcement learning for in-car scenarios, developed at Edinburgh University and Cambridge University for the TALK project1. Research in this ﬁeld is currently focused on how to achieve adaptation, and particularly on applying Reinforcement Learning (RL) techniques, so a comparative study of the related methods, such as this, is necessary.
Silane and NaOH were used to treatment bamboo shoot culm sheath fiber. After treatment, the interfacial shear strength of fiber with MAPP increased by 24% and 30% respectively. Alkali treatment has much effect on bamboo shoot culm sheath fiber than silane treatment. Though both document summarization and keyword extraction aim to extract concise representations from documents, these two tasks have usually been investigated independently. This paper proposes a novel iterative reinforcement approach to simultaneously extracting summary and keywords from single document under the assumption that the summary and keywords of a document can be mutually boosted. The approach can naturally make full use of the reinforcement between sentences and keywords by fusing three kinds of relationships between sentences and words, either homogeneous or heterogeneous.
