Bacterial biofilms are regarded to be the primary aetiological factor in the initiation of
gingival inflammation and subsequent destruction of periodontal tissues (Offenbacher 1996)
and three major specific pathogens have been repeatedly identified as etiologic agents,
namely Aggregatibacter (Actinobacillus) actinomycetemcomitans (Aa), Porphyromonas gingivalis
(Pg) and Tannerella forsythia (Tf) (Socransky et al. 1998).

While the links between ICT and environmental outcomes are becoming clearer, there is no separate statistical field that links the two. Nevertheless, some data are available from official statistical sources, from analytical work and from product life cycle studies.
This report suggests a conceptual framework for the new statistical field “ICT and the environment” based on an existing OECD framework for information society statistics. Sources of official data to populate the framework are investigated and some relevant work has been identified.

This paper borrows from the empirical literature on non-financial firms to explain the
capital structure of large, publicly traded banks. It uncovers empirical regularities that are
inconsistent with a first order effect of capital regulation on banks’ capital structure. Instead,
the paper suggests that there are considerable similarities between banks’ and non-financial
firms’ capital structures.
The Semantic Web  holds out a different vision, that of information laid bare so that it

Spain was (and still is) the largest producer of mercury in the world. Stories of Spanish galleons
carrying tonnes of gold and silver looted from Central and South America back to Spain are well
documented. Less well known is the fact that many tonnes of mercury were shipped from Spain to
the “New World.” The Spanish conquistadors used that mercury to process precious metals. Parts of
Mexico are still heavily contaminated from the thousands of tonnes of mercury that were brought from
Spain during the four-hundred-year period of Spanish rule.
Biodiversity is fundamental to sustaining life, providing
critical ecosystem services such as food provisioning, water
purification, flood and drought control, nutrient cycling, and
climate regulation, amongst many others. These services
are essential to support human well-being and economic
growth. Yet despite the significant economic, social and
cultural values of biodiversity and ecosystem services,
biodiversity worldwide is being lost, and in some areas at
an accelerating rate.
Overall, the quality of SAR reporting has been quite good, indicating that insur-
ance companies are well positioned to report to law enforcement several specific
categories of suspected illicit activities relating to money laundering. In addition,
they are equally poised to provide through SARs, information that may benefit the
mission of state regulatory agencies.

panies between May 2, 2006 and May 1, 2007.
Then came 1999 — and a new federal government preoccupation with privacy. The
general approach has been to create new federal limitations, not to replace state lim-
itations, but to set a nationwide floor of privacy protection. Several states are now try-

furniture pieces. Recently, Merrell et al.  proposed a data-
driven method to generate residential building layouts. In their
work, 120 examples of architectural programs are used to train a
Bayesian network that captures the relationships among different
rooms. Given certain user requirements as priors, the Bayesian net-
work can then be used to generate a ﬂoor plan, which is iteratively
modiﬁed to incorporate desirable human factors. The result is a
synthesized ﬂoor plan for a residential building.
Furniture is a
ubiquitous object, i.e., it can be found everywhere at home or the office, and it can
integrate and hide the sensors of a network. This work addresses the lack of an exhaustive
study of the effect of furniture on signal losses. In addition an easy-to-use tool for
estimating the robustness of the communication channel among the sensor nodes and
gateways is proposed. Specifically, the losses in a sensor network signal due to the
materials found within the communication link are evaluated.
In a literature review of DRESCHER-KADEN et al. (1992) including 900 papers published since
1977, residue data about the level of organic pollutants in German sewage sludges were
collected. 332 organic compounds with known or suspected toxic effects have been
detected in sewage sludges, 42 of them regularly, most of them within the range of g/kg to
mg/kg dry matter. Except volatile and easily degradable chemicals, the residue level
increases from raw to digested sludge.
