then, the tools were unpolished, the APIs in the SDK were unstable, and the documentation was sparse.
Fast forward two and a half years, Android is now a formidable mobile operating system, with a following
no less impressive than the iPhone. Having gone through all the growing pains of Android, I
think now is the best time to start learning about Android programming — the APIs have stabilized,
and the tools have improved.
Under the umbrella of Rapid-X (Udroiu & Ivan, 2008) there are some specific terms such as:
Rapid Product Development (RPD), Rapid Technology, Rapid Nanotechnology, Rapid
Prototyping (RP), Rapid Tooling (RT) and Rapid Manufacturing (RM). Additive
manufacturing (AM) is an important component of the rapid product development process.
Basic principles underlying the transactions of financial markets are tied to
probability and statistics. Accordingly it is natural that books devoted to
mathematical finance are dominated by stochastic methods. Only in recent
years, spurred by the enormous economical success of financial derivatives,
a need for sophisticated computational technology has developed. For example,
to price an American put, quantitative analysts have asked for the
numerical solution of a free-boundary partial differential equation.
This book developed as a result of my requirement to have a simple, comprehensive
and well-structured repertoire of tools for my own consulting activities. Whenever I
wanted to ‘pull the rabbit out of the hat’, I used to waste time browsing through previous
project work to find things I had done previously. In order to avoid having to
‘reinvent the wheel’ each time, I developed my own ‘cheat sheet’ – a list with names
of tools to prompt and remind me of what was ‘available’.

Data-driven systems for natural language processing have the advantage that they can easily be ported to any language or domain for which appropriate training data can be found. However, many data-driven systems require careful tuning in order to achieve optimal performance, which may require specialized knowledge of the system. We present MaltOptimizer, a tool developed to facilitate optimization of parsers developed using MaltParser, a data-driven dependency parser generator.
We present langid.py, an off-the-shelf language identiﬁcation tool. We discuss the design and implementation of langid.py, and provide an empirical comparison on 5 longdocument datasets, and 2 datasets from the microblog domain. We ﬁnd that langid.py maintains consistently high accuracy across all domains, making it ideal for end-users that require language identiﬁcation without wanting to invest in preparation of in-domain training data.
Linguistically annotated treebanks play an essential part in the modern computational linguistics. The more complex the treebanks become, the more sophisticated tools are required for using them, namely for searching in the data. We study linguistic phenomena annotated in the Prague Dependency Treebank 2.0 and create a list of requirements these phenomena set on a search tool, especially on its query language.
Named Entity Extraction is a mature task in the NLP ﬁeld that has yielded numerous services gaining popularity in the Semantic Web community for extracting knowledge from web documents. These services are generally organized as pipelines, using dedicated APIs and different taxonomy for extracting, classifying and disambiguating named entities. Integrating one of these services in a particular application requires to implement an appropriate driver. Furthermore, the results of these services are not comparable due to different formats.
