  • The blossoming of computer science (CS) research is evident in the information technology that has migrated from a specialized tool confined to the laboratory or corporate back office to a ubiquitous presence in machines and devices that now figure in the lives of virtually every individual. This widespread diffusion of information technology can obscure the nature of computer science research underlying the IT— from the perspective of many outside the field, computer science is seen not as a basic area of systematic inquiry but as a tool to support other endeavors....

  • Being capable of publishing in peer-reviewed journals is commonly seen as an indicator of proper scientific research. It is the duty of a researcher to publish his results for the scientific community. Research can be seen as a product that must be sold to the target audience in the form of an article. In other words, research results do not exist before they are successfully published. The key people for getting one’s article accepted for publication are the editor-in-chief, editor, and reviewers.

  • The organizational structure for project management is often chosen to mitigate risk in a weak capacity environment, but it may also reflect internal incentives that focus on speed of project processing and disbursement, and perceived stigmas in low implementation performance ratings. The result is often the use of PIUs—sometimes semi-permanently—even though regional studies have shown that they are suboptimal organizational arrangements and create problems of morale among government officials.

  • I can safely state that no one truly comprehends the physiology and pathophysiology of the microvasculature. In a large measure, this less than desirable state is the result of an explosion of new scientific data that creates paradoxically [or maybe poetically] a concomitant explosion of ignorance. But challenges enhance curiosity. Regardless how far scientists’ understanding may be from the natural laws that regulate microvessel functions, we share an incumbency to accumulate and disseminate, by whatever means, current new concepts based upon the latest tested investigations. ...

  • In the method of creating digital terrain model (DTM) by using digital photogrammetry, the picket sampling interval (PSI) plays an important role since it strongly influences on the production effectiveness and on the accuracy of created DTMs. The optimal value of PSI must be balanced between requirements of effectiveness and of accuracy. This research is focused on the influence of PSI on root mean square error (RMSE) of created DTM and on the number of error pickets (caused by limitation of image matching technique) that must be checked and corrected manually.

  • From the time of the first Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries oil embargo nearly 30 years ago, the United States has looked to new technology for solutions to its energy problems. Indeed, the first government reports to recommend an energy research and development (R&D) agenda appeared within weeks of that 1973 event. In 1975, President Ford created the Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA), consolidating under one umbrella existing R&D energy programs from several agencies. This means that researchers do not have a common development and test set for natural language processing of learner English such as for grammatical error detection. Given this background, we created a novel learner corpus that was manually error-tagged and shallowparsed.
