Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. No obvious damage to the book cover, with the dust jacket (if applicable) included for hard covers. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. Some identifying marks on the inside cover, but this is minimal. Very little wear and tear. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections
Singapore carries out some of the most advanced and innovative water research
across the whole water cycle. Leveraging on technologies and best management
practices, Singapore is actively pursuing new technologies and processes to ensure
security of supply to meet the ever-growing demands of its population and industry.
This effort is spearheaded by PUB Singapore—the national water agency—and
the Environment & Water Industry Programme Office established in May 2006
by the National Research Foundation.
Access to basic services and mobility are both enhanced by public transportation and street connectivity
(i.e., streets lead to other streets and stores, rather than just ending in cul-de-sacs). Having access to a car, or the
use of mass transit, may enable greater mobility and utilization of local resources. Street connectivity may result
in smaller walkable neighborhoods and create the opportunity to walk, both recreationally and to complete
necessary errands independently.
The first edition of this text was written in the early 1990s. Since then, the field of
clinical research methods has continued to develop rapidly, and this second
edition has been extensively updated to reflect these developments. We have also
tried to make the whole book more user friendly, both in layout and in content.
All chapters now have summaries and boxes highlighting the key points, and we
have provided many more illustrative examples.
The biggest area of change is in our treatment of qualitative methods.
Intonation is important for learners of English because even with satisfactory consonants and vowels, a phrase/sentence with an incorrect intonation contour may change the intended meaning of the whole utterance.
A highlighter allows you to go through a lot of printed information quickly and highlight those page numbers, titles, or chapter headings that you don't have time to read at that moment but that you might want to return.
Advances in our understanding of the molecular principles underlining both health and disease
has revealed the existence of many regulatory polypeptides of significant medical potential. The
fact that such polypeptides are produced naturally within the body only in minute quantities
initially precluded their large-scale medical application. The development in the 1970s of the
twin techniques of genetic engineering and hybridoma technology marked the birth of the
modern biotech era.
Building Businesses with Small Producers presents the findings and a comparative analysis of seven case studies that challenge current beliefs about good practice in the provision of business development services (BDS) to small and micro enterprises. The book also highlights issues concerning the assessment of impact, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness of such services.
Protected cropping provides vegetable growers with an opportunity to enhance product
quality and improve food safety. The overall objective of this project was to provide
Vietnamese scientists and extension specialists with the training and tools to implement
and foster regionally feasible improvements to current vegetable production practices and
supply chains. This was achieved through: 1) greenhouse replicated experiments and
demonstration trials in Northern, Central and Southern Vietnam; 2) four in-country
workshops and 3) two Australian study tours for research and extension personnel.
In empirical studies of retirement decisions of the elderly, health is often found to have a large, if not
dominant, effect. Depending on which health measures are used, these estimated effects may be biased
estimates of the causal effect of health on the dependent variable(s).Research indicates that subjective,
self-assessed health measures may be affected by endogenous reporting behaviour and even if an objective
health measure is used, it is not likely ...
The paper examines the origins of Paediatrics in Spain since 1600. It mentions some of the
main pioneers for the speciality highlighting the role of, among others, Jerónimo Soriano,
considered the forefather of the speciality in Spain. It looks at the factors that gradually
contributed to the beginnings of Paediatrics as a specific branch, distinct from General
Medicine and Obstetrics, explaining the slow but spectacular advances in Paediatrics to
In 1961, Baker, Gammel and Wills conjectured that for functions f meromorphic in the unit ball, a subsequence of its diagonal Pad´ approximants e converges uniformly in compact subsets of the ball omitting poles of f . There is also apparently a cruder version of the conjecture due to Pad´ himself, going e back to the early twentieth century. We show here that for carefully chosen q on the unit circle, the Rogers-Ramanujan continued fraction 1+ qz| q 2 z| q 3 z| + + + ··· |1 |1 |1
provides a counterexample to the conjecture. We also highlight some...
Most research on physical activity and colon cancer has focused on occupational physical
activity in men. Clearly, men with sedentary jobs have increased risk of colon cancer
(Sternfeld, 1992). One of the most comprehensive studies that included women was a case-
control study of Utah residents that took into account differences in dietary patterns and
body weight, confounding factors not usually controlled (Slattery et al., 1988).

Prokaryotic cyanobacteria express robust circadian (daily) rhythms under the control of a central clock. Recent studies shed light on the mechanisms governing circadian rhythms in cyanobacteria and highlight key differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic clocks.

Diagnostic challenge: bilateral infected lumbar facet cysts - a rare cause of acute lumbar spinal stenosis and back pain
Brett A Freedman, Tuan L Bui, S Timothy Yoon*
Abstract Symptomatic synovial lumbar facet cysts are a relatively rare cause of radiculopathy and spinal stenosis. This case and brief review of the literature, details a patient who presented with acutely symptomatic bilateral spontaneously infected synovial facet (L4/5) cysts.
