This document has been prepared in an offort to provide answers to the most frequently asked questions about setting up a lab. these recommendations are not set in stone. these are just some guidelines to point candidates in the right direction.

While this new era dramatically increased the importance of the
physical database design problem, it also exposed the severe
limitations of the past techniques. The “expert system” based
approach was no longer viable as building an external accurate
model of index usage was no longer feasible. Therefore, the
approach taken in  to use the optimizer’s cost model and
statistics was the natural choice. However, even there we faced
several key gaps in what  offered.
For direct marketing, the assumption that a purchase can only be generated by a direct
promotion is too simplistic and does not reflect real world phenomena. Following such
assumption will lead a campaign to be response-driven and, consequently, waste
resources on voluntary buyers. In this thesis, we recognize the implications such an
unrealistic assumption has on the field of direct marketing. Our research first conducts
experiments on real campaign data following the traditional strategy. Then, we introduce
a new strategy for direct marketing, called influential marketing.
As health education and life skills have evolved during the past decade, there is growing
recognition of and evidence for the role of psychosocial and interpersonal skills in the
development of young people, from their earliest years through childhood, adolescence,
and into young adulthood. These skills have an effect on the ability of young people to
protect themselves from health threats, build competencies to adopt positive behaviours,
and foster healthy relationships.
It is clear from the findings of this survey and from prior research that the health
