Music Recommendation Systems often recommend individual songs, as opposed to entire albums. The challenge is to generate reviews for each song, since only full album reviews are available on-line. We developed a summarizer that combines information extraction and generation techniques to produce summaries of reviews of individual songs. We present an intrinsic evaluation of the extraction components, and of the informativeness of the summaries; and a user study of the impact of the song review summaries on users’ decision making processes. ...
This paper proposes a method to extract product features from user reviews and generate a review summary. This method only relies on product specifications, which usually are easy to obtain. Other resources like segmenter, POS tagger or parser are not required. At feature extraction stage, multiple specifications are clustered to extend the vocabulary of product features. Hierarchy structure information and unit of measurement information are mined from the specification to improve the accuracy of feature extraction. ...
In this paper, we define a new type of summary for sentiment analysis: a singlesentence summary that consists of a supporting sentence that conveys the overall sentiment of a review as well as a convincing reason for this sentiment. We present a system for extracting supporting sentences from online product reviews, based on a simple and unsupervised method. We design a novel comparative evaluation method for summarization, using a crowdsourcing service.
We propose categories of finer-grained polarity for a more effective aspect-based sentiment summary, and describe linguistic and ontological clues that may affect such fine-grained polarity. We argue that relevance for satisfaction, contrastive weight clues, and certain adverbials work to affect the polarity, as evidenced by the statistical analysis. en and P

This book has been a project spanning several years. Many have commented
that the first edition was one of the best technical books they ever read. What’s
made this book a reality are the many people that aided in its development.
We took a big risk in developing the second edition of this book and decided
to build the book on the Web. We received feedback from around the world
when writing this book, and thus we have an evolving list of contributors and
In 2006 the Royal Society, in cooperation with the International Council for Science, the
InterAcademy Panel on International Issues (now the IAP—the Global Network of
Science Academies) and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, organized a workshop
that surveyed trends in science and technology (S&T). The objective was to provide an
independent contribution from the international scientific community to the 6th
Conference of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BWC) that was held in
December of that year. ...
This Handbook has been designed to assist students as well as professionals in the
behavioral and biological sciences to understand and apply the principles and methods
of experimental research. The Handbook is comprehensive but is written in a concise,
outline format. This allows a considerable amount of material to be presented in an explicit,
compact form that facilitates the perception and understanding of the hierarchical and
parallel relationships among concepts. As a result, learning, retrieving, and applying the
information should be greatly enhanced....

Despite the gatekeeper role that these scoring systems play regarding access to credit,
housing, insurance, utilities, and employment, as well as pricing for those essentials,
exactly how the formulas perform the transformation from credit report to credit score is
a closely guarded secret. For consumers, regulators, and even industry participants who
rely on the computations in their decision-making, the scoring models largely remain a
Much of the tremendous increases in submissions (and thus output) are a reflection of the significant
investment developing nations have placed in science and the greater knowledge economy. A 2011 report
from The Royal Society1
reviews a number of research investments around the world, finding “growth of
commitment to science in a number of the non-G8 nations [as] especially striking” (p. 5). Iran, for example,
has set R&D investment goals to 4% of GDP (0.59% of GDP in 2006) and education investment goals to 7% of
GDP (5.49% of GDP in 2007) by 2030 (p. 21). As...
Publishers are not dealing with an incremental increase in workload associated with peer review, but rather
a crush of manuscripts that must be fed through processes and procedures that may struggle to keep ahead
of this tide. When this is the case, publication editors and staff are often forced to quickly weed through
submissions and try to identify any “possible” candidates that can be processed into the peer review process,
triaging out ‘poorer’ or ‘less relevant’ manuscripts early in the process.
The case studies included in this discussion paper are part of a project that
Resources for the Future (RFF) is conducting under a cooperative agreement with the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and with general support from RFF. The
case studies were originally vetted as RFF Discussion Paper 97-08 in 1996, and this
revised version of the discussion paper reflects many useful comments and corrections
supplied by reviewers.
You can begin by thinking about your personal needs and wants. “Needs” are
items that you must have for basic survival, such as food, clothing, and shelter.
“Wants” are things you desire but can live without, such as fashion items,
restaurant meals, or entertainment.
Make a list of each and estimate the costs; then compare. Are you spending as
much for your wants as for your needs? Are you currently making payments on
items that you bought to satisfy your wants?
Remember, wants are neither good nor bad.
A diverse set of regulatory approaches and enforcement tools is applied to a sizeable universe of
regulated entities by these multiple regulating authorities to ensure compliance. A general
discussion of enforcement monitoring and response tools is included in this report, followed by a
summary of recent fiscal year federal funding levels for enforcement activities. Discussion of
available enforcement data sources, as well as tables illustrating examples of trends in
enforcement activities, is presented in the two appendixes.
