Materials/Methods: 204 hospitalized patients with smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis were identified. The clinical files of the patients were analyzed and questionnaires were created. Results: Mean application interval was 31.4 days, mean referral interval was 22.1 days, mean diagnosis interval was 3.3 days, and mean initiation of treatment interval was 1.4 days. Patient delay was present in 34.8 percent of the patients.

  • Increasing attention has also been given to dissecting and understanding diversity in relation to genes underlying important agronomic traits in a number of crops. Molecular phylogenetics and genetic diversity analysis can help to clarify the taxonomic identity and evolutionary relationships of the wild relatives of crop species. These methods can also help prevent misidentification and carefully plan effective germplasm management strategies.

  • Canadian GAAP requires the use of bid prices for long positions and ask prices for short positions in the fair valuation of investments traded in an active market, rather than the use of closing prices currently used for the purpose of determining Net Asset Value (“NAV”). For investments that are not traded in an active market, Canadian GAAP requires the use of valuation techniques, incorporating factors that market participants would consider in setting a price.

  • This trend reflects the ongoing disen- chantment with mass media advertising based on the difficulty of measuring its effectiveness. However, the trend also reflects a desire by manufacturers and retailers to get closer to customers in some form of relationship marketing. A number of explanations have been forwarded for the increasing popularity of promotions (Dickson and Sawyer, 1990; Quelch, 1983; Low and Jakki, 2000; Dawes, 2004). One of the key factors is the changing relationship with advertising.

  • Pharmacokinetics describes, in a quantitative manner, the passage of drugs through the body. A series of distinctive parameters such as bioavailability, volume of distribution and clearance are used to describe: --The rate and extent of drug absorption into the blood stream The rate and extent of drug movement out of blood into the tissues The rate of drug removal from the body These parameters can then be used to predict the blood concentration of drug that will arise with any given dosage regime. A diverse range of students will have some exposure to PKs....

  • Since the early 1970s, a variety of issues relating to energy supply have disrupted the energy marketplace. The oil crises of the 1970s, the deregulation of electricity and gas markets, the ebb and flow of various conflicts in the Middle East, Y2K fears, air-quality concerns, the recognition of global warming, and California’s recent energy supply woes are just some of the events and concerns that have affected both consumer perceptions and market prices.

  • Universities seem not well prepared to ‘educate’ transformation skills. Like undergraduate programs, most MBA programs focus on traditional, disciplinary knowledge (e.g. marketing, accounting / finance, human resources, operations management, and information systems), although complex transformations require cross-disciplinary skills. Even at renowned business schools, integrated, cross-disciplinary pro- grams focusing on change are hard to find (Team Denzler, 2002). If they exist at all, ‘change’ programs often are restricted to soft factors and exclude technology issues.

  • Faulty construction or neglected maintenance is the primary cause of structural hazards in homes and schools. Faulty construction leads to building defects that increase the likelihood of structural hazards and fires, which in turn increase the risk of falls, burns, and other injuries. These defects also lead to inadequate ventilation and moisture accumulation; both factors raise the levels of asthma triggers in the home (38, 52).

  • Cyclic AMP responsive element (CRE)-binding protein (CREB) is known to activate transcription when its Ser133 is phosphorylated. Two independ-ent investigations have suggested the presence of Ser133-independent acti-vation. One study identified a kinase, salt-inducible kinase (SIK), which repressed CREB; the other isolated a novel CREB-specific coactivator, transducer of regulated CREB activity (TORC), which upregulated CREB activity.

  • Permanganate may be applied to sites as either potassium permanganate (KMnO4) or sodium permanganate (NaMnO4). Where cost dominates over engineering factors at a site, potassium permanganate is the preferred chemical form because it is more widely available, less costly, and is available in solid form, which facilitates transport and handling. Where other factors are more important, the liquid form of sodium permangante is preferable.

  • AbstractHumidity is one of the main causes of decay in buildings, particularly rising damp, caused by the migration of moisture from the ground through the materials of the walls and floors via capillary action. This water comes from groundwater and surface water. The height that moisture will reach through cap illary action depends upon factors such as the quantity of water in contact with the particular part of the building, surface evaporation conditions, wall thickness, building orientation and the presence of salts.
