This book should be of interest to scholars, researchers, students, and practitioners
alike. Scholars, researchers, and students of personal relationship development will
recognize in this book the first serious attempt in over 40 years to do a large-scale,
longitudinal study of premarital factors that predict premarital breakup and marital
quality; they should also appreciate our attempt to develop a theoretical rationale
for predicted paths and to test those paths with the best available statistical tools.
This handbook emphasizes the use of synthetic membranes for separations
involving industrial or municipal process streams. Little will be said concerning
the use of membranes in medical applications as in artificial kidneys
or for controlled drug release.
Most of the membrane processes are pressure driven. The notable exception
to this is electrodialysis (ED) by which ions are separated under the influence
of an electric field. In addition, the chapter on coupled transport covers
processes which are driven under the influence of a concentration gradient....
When the field of microfluidics emerged in the early 1990s, it was primarily focused
on the development of analytical microdevices. Since then, microfluidics has expanded
its influence into virtually every branch of science and engineering. There are many
driving forces behind this explosive growth. To name a few:
• Scaling properties afforded by miniaturization are desirable for many
applications. For example, enhanced mass transfer and heat dissipation
enable faster chemical separations without sacrificing separation
In the MEMS industry, systems for deep reactive-ion etching
(DRIE) utilize fast pumping, fast-response mass-flow controllers
inductive coupling of power, and heated chamber and pump lines
that are critical to achieve reliable etch rates. In contrast, we have
achieved 8:1 aspect-ratio PhC structures with 62nm vertica
membrane walls using a standard reactive-ion etching process based
on a sidewall passivation processes. In the remainder of this section
we discuss this fabrication process.
B Semi-colon (;)
We can use a semi-colon between two separate statements which are linked in meaning. Melanie is a very kind person; she visits David in hospital every day. We could also use a full stop here.
C Colon (:)
We can use a colon before an explanation or before a list. Vicky felt nervous: she hated the dark. There wasn't much in the fridge: a couple of sausages, some butter, half a bottle of milk.
The study of catalytic membranes and membrane reactor processes is a multidisciplinary
activity, which in recent years has attracted the attention of scientists and engineers
in a number of disciplines, including materials science, chemistry and biology, and chemical
and biochemical engineering.
In the past few years we have observed an interesting mutual interest of
two fields of research and development in each other. Life sciences area
researchers discovered the opportunities offered my micro- and
nanotechnology, while people from the microfluidics and BIOMEMS area
discovered the application potential of these technologies in cell biology.
Unfortunately, these two research communities share little in common: they
read and publish in different scientific journals, have incompatible jargons,
attend separate conferences, and have a different scientific approach and

Transport through a strongly coupled graphene quantum dot in perpendicular magnetic field

Abstract We present transport measurements on a strongly coupled graphene quantum dot in a perpendicular magnetic field.
Data is increasingly generated by instruments that monitor the
environment – telescopes looking at the heavens, DNA sequenc-
ers decoding molecules, bar-code readers watching passing
freight-cars, patient monitors watching the life-signs of a person
in the emergency room, cell-phone and credit-card systems look-
ing for fraud, RFID scanners watching products flow through the
supply chain, and smart-dust sensing its environment.
In each of these cases, one wants to compare...
With Oracle Real Application Clusters (as with any other Oracle database) the
Oracle Instance (the processes and memory structures allocated on a server to
allow access to the data) is de-coupled from the Oracle Database (the physical
structures residing on the storage, which actually hold the data. These structures are
commonly known as ‘datafiles’).
However, a clustered database (using more than one instance) differs from a single
instance database in a way that the database can be accessed by multiple instances
This is very convenient and the ready access to the Internet in all first-world
countries, coupled with the cost savings from closing bank branches, is driving
the deployment and adoption of these services. Purely online transactions, however,
lead to increased risk. None of the normal safeguards of real-world transactions
are present. Conversely, risk to the criminals is a lot lower (the attacker can
be in a completely separate jurisdiction from all the other parties in the transaction)
and the retailer sees nothing but a faceless, nameless connection providing
An attractive property of attribute-value grammars is their reversibility. Attribute-value grammars are usually coupled with separate statistical components for parse selection and fluency ranking. We propose reversible stochastic attribute-value grammars, in which a single statistical model is employed both for parse selection and fluency ranking.
The rotor subunitc of the A1AOATP synthase of the hyperthermophilic
archaeon Pyrococcus furiosuscontains a conserved Na
indicating that Na
is a coupling ion. To experimentally address the nat-ure of the coupling ion, we isolated the enzyme by detergent solubilization
from native membranes followed by chromatographic separation tech-niques.
Insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3), which is primarily expressed in the Ley-dig cells of the testes, is a member of the insulin superfamily of peptide
hormones. One of its primary functions is to initiate and mediate des-cent of the testes of the male fetus via interaction with its G protein-coupled receptor, RXFP2. Study of the peptide has relied upon chemical
synthesis of the separate A- and B-chains and subsequent chain recombi-nation.
