  • This book is based on lectures delivered over the years by the author at the Universit´e Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, at the University of Stuttgart, and at City University of Hong Kong. Its two-fold aim is to give thorough introductions to the basic theorems of differential geometry and to elasticity theory in curvilinear coordinates. The treatment is essentially self-contained and proofs are complete.

  • A Roman slave, identified by the tablet he wears around his neck, shows the family a basin with a base made in the form of the sea monster Scylla. The basin in the painting references an ancient basin (labrum) that was mounted onto a modern base similar to the one in the painting. Alma-Tadema included detailed references to Greek and Roman antiquities in many of his works of art.

  • An elastic stability problem of the thin round cylindrical shells subjected to torsional moment at two extremities has been investigated in the paper [6]. By the small elastoplastic deformation theory and by the flow theory, this problem again has been studied in [2] and [4]. Basing on the theory of elastoplastic processes the above mentioned problem has been solved by approach simulation of instability form of the cylinder (see [1],[5]). In this paper, the solution of problem in the real bending form of structure has been found. ...

  • A Connector is a device used to provide a semi-permanent link between two optical fibers. Connectors must be able to maintain good optical contact between the fibers at the connector interfaces. In theory, only the cross sectional face of the two fibers need to touch, hence the term Physical Contact (PC) connector is used. The basic components of a connector include the body, the ferrule, the barrel (coupling nut/insert), and the boot. The body is the physical shell of the connector, which houses the mechanism used to secure the fiber to the connector.
