  • Supply Chain Management (SCM) has been widely researched in numerous application domains during the last decade. Despite the popularity of SCM research and applications, considerable confusion remains as to its meaning. There are several attempts made by researchers and practitioners to appropriately define SCM. Amidst fierce competition in all industries, SCM has gradually been embraced as a proven managerial approach to achieving sustainable profits and growth.

  • Our pharmaceutical and medical organizations are living organisms need feeding, growth and development to be competitive and can strive to survive otherwise it will degenerate by the tough competition from the surroundings. Quality is a major tool for agile and competitive organization. Quality need to be monitored and to be built into the product so it needs quality control which need highly accurate, precise, sensitive and valid analytical procedures to judge the quality throughout the manufacturing process....

  • The word genre comes from the French meaning type or category. Its roots are in the Latin word genus, a word which is now used to describe classification in biology. Using the concept of genre in relation to the moving image serves much the same purpose. Approaching films in relation to genre inevitably means treating individual films not as unique works of art but as members of different categories or groupings. There are two major approaches to film genre: The Descriptive Approach and The Functional Approach. ...

  • The proposed book contains a lot of recent research devoted to numerical simulations of physical and engineering systems. It can be treated as a bridge linking various numerical approaches of two closely inter-related branches of science, i.e. physics and engineering. Since the numerical simulations play a key role in both theoretical and application-oriented research, professional reference books are highly required by pure research scientists, applied mathematicians, engineers as well post- graduate students....

  • The RoboCup Soccer Simulation is considered as a good application of the Multi-Agent Systems. By using the multi-agent approach, each team in this simulation is considered as a multiagent system, which is coordinated each other and by a coach agent. Different strategies have been proposed in order to improve the efficiency of this agent. In this paper, we investigate firstly the coordination in several modern teams by identifying all of their disadvantages.

  • Speech recognition affords automobile drivers a hands-free, eyes-free method of replying to Short Message Service (SMS) text messages. Although a voice search approach based on template matching has been shown to be more robust to the challenging acoustic environment of automobiles than using dictation, users may have difficulties verifying whether SMS response templates match their intended meaning, especially while driving. Using a high-fidelity driving simulator, we compared dictation for SMS replies versus voice search in increasingly difficult driving conditions. ...

  • User simulations are shown to be useful in spoken dialog system development. Since most current user simulations deploy probability models to mimic human user behaviors, how to set up user action probabilities in these models is a key problem to solve. One generally used approach is to estimate these probabilities from human user data. However, when building a new dialog system, usually no data or only a small amount of data is available.

  • The development of Dialog-Based ComputerAssisted Language Learning (DB-CALL) systems requires research on the simulation of language learners. This paper presents a new method for generation of grammar errors, an important part of the language learner simulator. Realistic errors are generated via Markov Logic, which provides an effective way to merge a statistical approach with expert knowledge about the grammar error characteristics of language learners. Results suggest that the distribution of simulated grammar errors generated by the proposed model is similar to that of real learners.

  • Over several years, we have developed an approach to spoken dialogue systems that includes rule-based and trainable dialogue managers, spoken language understanding and generation modules, and a comprehensive dialogue system architecture. We present a Reinforcement Learning-based dialogue system that goes beyond standard rule-based models and computes on-line decisions of the best dialogue moves. The key concept of this work is that we bridge the gap between manually written dialog models (e.g.

  • A mathemalical model is presented that describes heat and moisture transfer during the holpressing of MDF. The model includes conduction of heat between the press platens and the central layer of the mattress, phase change of water from the adsorbed to the vapor state and the convective heat and mass transfer through the edges of the mattress. This approach results in a three-dimensional unsleady-state problem in which the properties of the wood fibers, water and the wood-water system are dependent on temperature, mattress moisture content and steam pressure.

  • Retinol-binding protein transports retinol, and circulates in the plasma as a macromolecular complex with the protein transthyretin. Under acidic con-ditions retinol-binding protein undergoes a transition to the molten globule state, and releases the bound retinol ligand. A biased molecular dynamics simulation method has been used to generate models for the ensemble of conformers populated within this molten globule state.

  • This paper proposes a novel user intention simulation method which is a data-driven approach but able to integrate diverse user discourse knowledge together to simulate various type of users. In Markov logic framework, logistic regression based data-driven user intention modeling is introduced, and human dialog knowledge are designed into two layers such as domain and discourse knowledge, then it is integrated with the data-driven model in generation time. Cooperative, corrective and selfdirecting discourse knowledge are designed and integrated to mimic such type of users. ...

  • Stochastic Optimality Theory (Boersma, 1997) is a widely-used model in linguistics that did not have a theoretically sound learning method previously. In this paper, a Markov chain Monte-Carlo method is proposed for learning Stochastic OT Grammars. Following a Bayesian framework, the goal is finding the posterior distribution of the grammar given the relative frequencies of input-output pairs. The Data Augmentation algorithm allows one to simulate a joint posterior distribution by iterating two conditional sampling steps. ...

  • We use a machine learner trained on a combination of acoustic and contextual features to predict the accuracy of incoming n-best automatic speech recognition (ASR) hypotheses to a spoken dialogue system (SDS). Our novel approach is to use a simple statistical User Simulation (US) for this task, which measures the likelihood that the user would say each hypothesis in the current context. Such US models are now common in machine learning approaches to SDS, are trained on real dialogue data, and are related to theories of “alignment” in psycholinguistics.
