of flooding from main rivers and on the coast. We are responsible for the strategic overview for all sources of
flooding. This means we will advise and bring together the planning and management of flood risk from rivers,

in managing flood and coastal erosion risk, each accountable for different aspects of risk management.

Flow cytometry in our studies contributes to better understanding of prokaryotic roles in the
Adriatic Sea as a separate ecosystem and as an important part of the Mediterranean Sea.
Studies of prokaryotic community by flow cytometry in the eastern part of Adriatic Sea
started in year 2003. The first studies were carried out for purposes of comparing two direct
counting methods for bacterioplankton (Šantić et al., 2007). The accuracy of epifluorescence
microscopy (EM) was assessed against direct counts made by flow cytometry (FCM).

In summary, a long series of studies have investigated the relationship between
income and pollution as defined by the Environmental Kutznets Curve. Papers by Grossman
and Krueger (1991), Shafik and Bandyopadhyay (1992) and Selden and Song (1994)
presented evidence that some pollutants have historically followed an inverted U-curve with
respect to income. Although these and other empirical studies point to a correlation between
income and pollution, the causal relation is not observed for all sets of data.
