ALTRUISM AND THE FAMILY FIRM : SOME THEORY Columns E and F explore the impact of varying the sample definition. In Column
E, the basic model is estimated on public schools only, while in Column F the 18 MSAs that
have only a single district are excluded. The choice-peer group interaction coefficient is
again negative in each of these specifications, significantly so (and with a substantially larger
point estimate than in the basic specifications) in the latter case.
Objective of study determining diet formula for 4-breeds exotic hybrid with optimal protein level bases on balancing some essential amino acids includes: lysine, methionine and threonine in order to improve grow capacity, feed utilization efficiency and to reduce urinal and faecal nitrogen and phosphorus excretion; formulating some formulas base on the local ingredients with optimal protein and amino acids level to ensure production efficiency of exotic 4-breeds hybrid and to reduce environment pollution in pig production.
Research Objectives: selecting the imported soybean varieties that have good growth and development, are suitable with the ecological conditions of Thai Nguyen; determining some intensive cultivation techniques that are suitable for the prospect variety.
Some considerations are presented regarding certain aspects of automatically translating Russian predicative infinitives into English. Emphasis is placed on the analysis (decoding) of the pertinent infinitive constructions in the source language rather than on the synthesis (encoding) of their equivalents in the target language.
The paper presents some of the results obtained within a research project aimed at developing ET (English Tutor), an intelligent tutoring system which supports Italian students in learning the English verbs. We concentrate on one of the most important modules of the system, the domain (i.e. verb) expert which is devoted to generate, in a cognitively transparent way, the right tense for the verb(s) appearing in the exercises presented to the student. An example which highlights the main capabilities of the verb expert is provided. A prototype version of ET has been fully implemented. ...

This paper presents an approach to detection of the semantic types of relation arguments employing the WordNet hierarchy. Using the SemEval-2007 data, we show that the method allows to generalize relation arguments with high precision for such generic relations as Origin-Entity, Content-Container, Instrument-Agency and some other.
In this paper we present some novel applications of Explanation-Based Learning (EBL) technique to parsing Lexicalized Tree-Adjoining grammars. The novel aspects are (a) immediate generalization of parses in the training set, (b) generalization over recursive structures and (c) representation of generalized parses as Finite State Transducers. A highly impoverished parser called a "stapler" has also been introduced. We present experimental results using EBL for different corpora and architectures to show the effectiveness of our approach. ...
Tree Adjoining G r a m m a r (TAG) is u formalism for natural language grammars. Some of the basic notions of T A G ' s were introduced in [Jo~hi,Levy, mad Takakashi I~'Sl and by [Jo~hi, l ~ l . A detailed investigation of the linguistic relevance of T A G ' s has been carried out in IKroch and Joshi,1985~. In this paper, we will describe some new results for TAG's, espe¢ially in the following areas: (I) parsing complexity of TAG's, (2) some closure results for TAG's, and (3) the relationship to Head grammars. ...
In this paper we examine the pragmatic knowledge an utterance-planning system must have in order to produce certain kinds of definite and indefinite noun phrases. An utterance.planning system, like other planning systems, plans actions to satisfy an agent's goals, but allows some of the actions to consist of the utterance of sentences. This approach to language generation emphasizes the view of language as action, and hence assigns a critical role to pragmatics.

He is perhaps able to decipher an English text with tolerable accuracy; he is more or less able to translate into classical English the conventional sentences which form the “exercises” contained in his “English Course”; the range of his vocabulary and the extent of his knowledge of classical grammar are such as have enabled him to gain sufficient marks to pass some examination. He may even have paid some attention to the “conversational” side, and have satisfied his teacher as to his capacities for giving oral answers to the set questions contained in his text-book.
