The recent problems with the millinium bridge is simply another reminder. The many devastating earthquakes in many parts of the world leading to severe loss of life in densely inhabited urban areas alos has underlined the need for a fundamental understanding of structural behavior.
Long-span features, such as syntax, can improve language models for tasks such as speech recognition and machine translation. However, these language models can be difﬁcult to use in practice because of the time required to generate features for rescoring a large hypothesis set. In this work, we propose substructure sharing, which saves duplicate work in processing hypothesis sets with redundant hypothesis structures.
The Chinese comma signals the boundary of discourse units and also anchors discourse relations between adjacent text spans. In this work, we propose a discourse structureoriented classiﬁcation of the comma that can be automatically extracted from the Chinese Treebank based on syntactic patterns. We then experimented with two supervised learning methods that automatically disambiguate the Chinese comma based on this classiﬁcation.
Sentiment analysis seeks to identify the viewpoint(s) underlying a text span; an example application is classifying a movie review as “thumbs up” or “thumbs down”. The Arabidopsis FAE1 b-ketoacyl-CoA synthase (FAE1 KCS) catalyzes the condensation of malonyl-CoA with longchain acyl-CoAs. Sequence analysis of FAE1 KCS predicted that this condensing enzyme is anchored to a membrane by two adjacent N-terminal membrane-spanning domains. In order to characterize the FAE1 KCS and analyze its mechanism, FAE1 KCS and its mutants were engineered with a His6-tag at their N-terminus, and expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
