  • Mining wastes can cause significant ecological destruction. Often, solid mine wastes are dumped into streams, destroying habitat and causing siltation and heavy metal and other contamination. Even when such wastes are stored out of water channels, trace materials can leach into surface waters and infiltrate into local groundwater. Fine- grained tailings can wash into local waterways and degrade streams by covering and filling coarser-grained substrates.

Since information searching can vary widely, you’ll want to schedule targeted focus groups based on market segment (e.g. parents with young children, young adults, seniors, etc.). Send invitations and follow up by phone until you’ve confirmed at least a dozen people. Have your discussion questions ready (broad, open-ended questions such as “What kinds of questions do you use the Internet to answer?”) and be prepared to demonstrate the gateway and its resources.

It is on this broad basis that the author succeeds in establishing a balance sheet which shows all of the achievements, but also all of the failures that have occurred in processes of internationalisation implemented since the end of World War I.

  • Understandings about what counts as ‘professional’ conduct, for example, are not necessarily uniform or consistent. This is because those involved in regulation are continuously engaged in maintaining and asserting their status (Willmott, 1991) in relation to each other and to significant others (e.g., politicians, civil servants, journalists, academics) who have their own agendas and may (even wilfully) ‘misinterpret’ , question, or criticise the ‘professional’ meanings that accountants seek to ascribe to their conduct.

Allocation discussions and decisions are unique to each fishery and are shaped by innumerable natural, social and economic factors. Despite these differences, all allocation decisions address the fundamental question of how to distribute a limited renewable resource among user groups. Allocation decisions introduce new challenges as well as opportunities.

In this paper we analyse the relative importance of these endogeneity and measurement issues in the context of a model of early retirement decisions. We state assumptions under which we can use relatively simple methods to assess the relative importance of state dependent reporting errors in individual responses to health questions. The estimation results indicate that among respondents...

  • The Hollywood Renaissance embraced aspects of ‘art’ cinema to some extent, but it proved short-lived, the product of a period of transition that soon passed in the later 1970s, with both the consolidation of a blockbuster-centred regime in Hollywood and a political turn to the right in American culture. Space for edgier, more questioning or ‘difficult’ filmmaking was generally reduced in Hollywood from the end of the decade.

  • Whatever the debate about its nature and causes, almost all observers would agree that inner-city poverty is multidimensional, extraordinarily complex, and difficult to under- stand. Various disciplines and policy frameworks give rise to very different notions of poverty and of its sources. To economists, it is an issue of labor markets, productivity, incentives, human capital, and choice. Sociologists and anthropologists tend to emphasize social status and relations, behavior, and culture. For social psychologists, the issues may include self-image, group membership, and attitudes.
