The design/check of steel frames is seamlessly integrated within the program. Initiation of the design process, along with control of various design parame-ters, is accomplished using the Design menu. Automated design at the object level is available for any one of a number of user-selected design codes, as long as the structures have first been modeled and analyzed by the program.
BS 449 was first issued in 1932 and was revised in December 1935, July 1937,
July 1948 and May 1959. It was reset and reprinted in February 1965
incorporating amendments Nos. 1 to 5 and reprinted in October 1967
incorporating amendments Nos. 6 and 7.
When a programme of Codes of Practice for Buildings was drawn up in 1942
under the aegis of the Ministry of Works, a Code of Practice for the structural use
of steel in buildings was included in a series for all types of building construction:
this was later (1948) issued as CP 113....
At the instigation of the Iron and Steel Federation, the late Bernard Godfrey began
work in 1952 on the first edition of the Steel Designers’ Manual. As principal author
he worked on the manuscript almost continuously for a period of two years. On
many Friday evenings he would meet with his co-authors, Charles Gray, Lewis Kent
and W.E. Mitchell to review progress and resolve outstanding technical problems.
A remarkable book emerged.
There is now a Fielders DHS (Dimond Hi-Span) Steel Section for your project no matter how big
or small. The superior range of gauges and sizes provide you with greater flexibility in your
design as well as a more efficient result. The Fielders DHS is set to change the standards of the
Australian building industry.
This book introduces the design of steel structures in accordance with AS 4100, the Australian Standard, in a format suitable for beginners. It also contains guidance and worked examples on some more advanced design problems for which we have been unable to find simple and adequate coverage in existing works to AS 4100.
The main objective of this book is to show, in a logical sequence, a set of papers
presenting new ideas that have been the result of the great advance in the knowledge
of steel within the last few decades. Amongst the fundamental topics dealt with is the
relationship between steel's properties in terms of its structure and composition and
how this is affected by its surrounding environment (i.e. stresses, temperature, strains,
This manual describes the inspection, evaluation, and repair of hydraulic steel structures,
including preinspection identification of critical locations (such as fracture critical members and various
connections) that require close examination. Nondestructive testing techniques that may be used during
periodic inspections or detailed structural inspections are discussed. Guidance is provided on material
testing to determine the chemistry, strength, ductility, hardness, and toughness of the base and weld metal....
The book includes all aspects of the architectural uses of steel in internal and external applications. The different types of structural members, frames and their connections are identified, and common details are discussed. Examples of the expressive use of steel are presented, including arches, tension structures, masts and glazing support systems.

Racking is constructed from steel components including upright frames, beams and decking. Special beam to
column (upright) connections and bracing systems are utilised, in order to achieve a three dimensional steel
‘sway’ or ‘braced’ structure with “aisles” to enable order pickers, industrial trucks or stacker cranes to reach the storage positions. Although components are standardised they are only standard to each manufacturer.
These components differ from traditional column and beam structures in the following regard.
The development of the world's productive resources during the 19th century, accelerated in general by major
innovations in the field of power, transportation, and textiles, was retarded by the occurrence of certain
bottlenecks. One of these affected the flow of suitable and economical raw materials to the machine tool and
transportation industries: in spite of a rapid growth of iron production, the methods of making steel remained
as they were in the previous century; and outputs remained negligible....
Non-destructive testing of steel forgings: Part 1 - Magnetic particle inspection (BS EN 10228 1:1999) describes the method and acceptance criteria to be used for the magnetic particle inspection of forgings manufactured from ferromagnetic materials. The method described is used for the detection of surface discontinuities.
