  • The NW of Vietnam is currently affected by a stress field characterizing by approximatc1y NS and EW sub-horizontal maximum and minimum principal stress axis respective1y. The results obtained from field investigations and numeric modelisation reveal that the present stress field varies not only in relative magnitude but also in orientation of principal stress axes from point to point and in depth. The tectonic stress variation strong1y depends on the geometry and active kinematics of faults as well as on their earthquake history. ...

  • Pipe stress analysis calculates the stress in a piping system subject to normal operating loads such as pressure, weight, and thermal expansion, and occasional loads such as wind, earthquake, and water hammer. Because all piping systems are connected to equipment such as vessels, tanks, pumps, turbines, and compressors, the piping stress analysis also involves evaluation of the effect of the piping forces and moments to the connecting equipment. As the piping stress is controlled by the arrangement of the supports and restraints, the scope of piping stress includes also pipe supports.

  • With advantages such as high strength, high stiffness, high chemical resistance, light weight…composite tubes are widely applied in urban construction and petroleum industry. In this report, the authors used the displacement method to study the mechanical behavior (stress, strain…) of an infinite hollow cylinder made of composite material under unsteady, axisymmetric plane temperature field. In the numerical calculations, we mainly studied the influence of time and volume ratio of the particle on the displacement and thermoelastic stress of a cylinder made of Titanium /PVC composite.

  • Fractures are ubiquitous in the brittle lithosphere in the upper part of earth’s crust. They play a critical role in the transport of fluids. Moreover, all major discovered geothermal reservoirs and a considerable number of petroleum reservoirs are in fractured rocks. This restates the importance of studying multiphase flow behavior inside the opened fracture space. From the engineering point of view, a rock fracture as defined here is simply a complex-shaped cavity filled with fluids or solid minerals. Therefore it is understood to include cracks, joints, and faults.

  • Materials are important to mankind because of the benefits that can be derived from the manipulation of their properties, for example electrical conductivity, dielectric constant, magnetization, optical transmittance, strength and toughness. Materials science is a broad field and can be considered to be an interdisciplinary area. Included within it are the studies of the structure and properties of any material, the creation of new types of materials, and the manipulation of a material's properties to suit the needs of a specific application....

  • IN BOTH NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL CONDITIONS, plants are frequently exposed to environmental stresses. Some environmental factors, such as air temperature, can become stressful in just a few minutes; others, such as soil water content, may take days to weeks, and factors such as soil mineral deficiencies can take months to become stressful. It has been estimated that because of stress resulting from climatic and soil conditions (abiotic factors) that are suboptimal, the yield of field-grown crops in the United States is only 22% of the genetic potential yield (Boyer 1982).

  • Controlled oxidation is increasingly being practiced using solid peroxides, pH modifiers, and catalysts that promote the generation of free radicals. This new approach moderates the rate of dissolution and peroxide generation, which in turn controls that rate of reaction between peroxide and the petroleum contaminants. The use of slurried peroxides creates the opportunity to release oxidants and oxygen over a longer period, which can promote subsequent aerobic remediation.

  • Monocropping can be used as a metaphor to describe educational systems in many developing countries. Education Volunteers are aware of the intense stress experienced by students whose families' hopes are pinned on their eventual success in a centralized academic system of education. The stress for you might come in trying to balance your students' expectations with your own inclinations, born of your experience in a system which, at least theoretically, aspires to equality and encourages diversity.

  • Adolescents, currently about 20 percent of the world’s population, have special reproductive health concerns and face risks related to early sexual experience, marriage and fertility. A rise in the age of marriage globally has contributed to declines in adolescent fertility. However, up to 50 percent of women in some countries still marry or enter a union by age 18, with this figure rising to 70 per- cent by age 20. The proportion of young women married or in union by age 20 is closely linked to adolescent fertility and exposure to reproductive health risks....

Common techniques include contour plowing, crop mulching, crop rotation, planting perennial crops and installing riparian buffers. Nutrients nitrogen and phosphorus are typically applied to farmland as commercial fertilizer; animal manure; or spraying of municipal or industrial waste water (effluent) or sludge.

  • Oversight is an important role assumed by the Bundesbank in the field of payment transactions. This task is clarified with the latest amendment to Section 3 of the BBankG and is also recognised by the Treaty and the Statute as a basic task of the Eurosystem. Its aim is to ensure smooth payment transactions and encourage efficiency and security. In practical terms, this function is exercised largely by means of the general agreements on procedures and standards jointly developed with the banking sector and via institutionalised dialogues in various official bodies.

When the conserva- tor is highly qualified, sensitive to aesthetic and art historical concerns, and knowledgeable about materials and methods, the results can bring new life to the sculpture. To the novice project manager, the highly specialized field of conservation can be confus- ing.

A new or emerging area of application will commonly be defined temporarily as a permutation or subset of existing disciplines; there is often gray area as to when a given sub-field becomes large and/or prominent enough to warrant classification as a new "branch.
