Assessing the Patient's Readiness to Change An attempt to initiate lifestyle changes when the patient is not ready usually leads to frustration and may hamper future weight-loss efforts. Assessment includes patient motivation and support, stressful life events, psychiatric status, time availability and constraints, and appropriateness of goals and expectations. Readiness can be viewed as the balance of two opposing forces: (1) motivation, or the patient's desire to change; and (2) resistance, or the patient's resistance to change.
A project has discrete steps budgeted into time, and it is in finite steps that
project management can go awry. Someone who has never run the kind of
project being detailed is likely to assign steps and values that are unrealistic.
Therefore, project management is best done by someone who has completed
a similar project before and knows the steps that go into it.
Like many management principles, project management isn’t new. Henry
Laurence Gantt, a mechanical engineer and disciple of scientific management
first published the Gantt chart in 1910.

Are these practices making a difference? According

management maturity is improving (Figure 2). Twenty
percent describe their organizations as having “high”
overall project management maturity, up from 11%
in 2006. Perhaps not surprisingly, larger firms tend
to report higher maturity levels. Nearly 30% of
firms with at least US$1 billion in annual revenues
report a high maturity level compared to just 10%
of those with annual revenues under US$50 million.
During times of budget challenges and uncertainty, supervisors might be experiencing an increase in the number of difficult conversations with their staff. These could include delivering bad news about an employee’s job, informing staff about work restructuring, or discussing other complicated and stressful work situations.
