The use of fibre optic sensors in structural health monitoring has rapidly accelerated in recent years. By embedding fibre optic sensors in structures (e.g. buildings, bridges and pipelines) it is possible to obtain real time data on structural changes such as stress or strain. Engineers use monitoring data to detect deviations from a structure’s original design performance in order to optimise the operation, repair and maintenance of a structure over time.

An economic analysis of the changes in China that occurred from 1933 to 1952 through 1957.During this period the output of producer goods greatly increased. The sacrifice had a telling effect on the incentive for production of other than steel and cement.Lack of progress in agriculture and the other old-fashioned sectors of the economy became a limiting factor to the development of the "modern" se......

Vertebrate metallothioneins are found to contain Zn(II) and variable
amounts of Cu(I),in vivo, and are believed to be important for d
control. To date, structural information is available for the Zn(II) and
Cd(II) forms, but not for the Cu(I) or mixed metal forms. Cu(I) binding to
metallothionein-1 has been investigated by circular dichroism, luminescence
H NMR using two synthetic fragments representing thea- and the
Human serum albumin (HSA) exists in both reduced and oxidized forms,
and the percentage of oxidized albumin increases in several diseases. How-ever, little is known regarding the pathophysiological significance of oxida-tion due to poor characterization of the precise structural and functional
properties of oxidized HSA.
We have investigated the molecular mechanisms that
produce different structural and functional behavior in the
monomeric and trimeric forms of seminal vesicle protein
no. 4, a protein with immunomodulatory, anti-inflamma-tory, and procoagulant activity secreted from the rat
seminal vesicle epithelium. The monomeric and trimeric
forms were characterized in solution by CD.
pH-Dependent structural changes forEscherichia coliO157:H7 EspA were
characterized by CD, 8-anilino-2-naphthyl sulfonic acid (ANS) fluores-cence, and sedimentation equilibrium ultracentrifugation. Far- and near-UV CD spectra, recorded between pH 2.0 and 7.0, indicate that the protein
has significant amounts of secondary and tertiary structures. An increase in
ANS fluorescence intensity (in the presence of EspA) was observed at aci-dic pH;
The solution structure of the growth factor chimera mEGF/ TGFa44250 has been determined using an extended version of the DYANA procedure for calculating structures from NMR data. The backbone fold and preferred orientation of the domains of the chimera are similar to those found in previous studies of EGF structures, and several H-bonds used as input constraints in those studies were found independently in the chimera. This shows that the modified activity of the chimera does not result from a major structural change.
With the aim to distinguish between local and global conformational changes induced by trifluoroethanol in RNase A, spectroscopic and activity measurements in combination with proteolysis by unspecific proteases have been exploited for probing structural transitions of RNase A as a function of trifluoroethanol concentration. At 30% (v/v) trifluoroethanol (pH 8.0; 25 °C), circular dichroism and fluorescence spectroscopy indicate a cooperative collapse of the tertiary structure of RNase A coinciding with the loss of its enzymatic activity....

(BQ) Part 1 book "Engineering materials 2" has contents: Metals, metal structures, equilibrium constitution and phase diagrams, case studies in phase diagrams, the driving force for structural change, case studies in phase transformations, the light alloys, ceramics and glasses, the mechanical properties of ceramics,... and other contents.
This book is a review of the relationships between times and tenses in English. It is intended for beginning and intermediate level language students in non-English speaking countries, as a reinforcement and addition to their regular structure classes. The chapter dealing with each tense may be used as soon as the students have covered that tense in their formal grammar study.
number of books on various aspects of concrete design and detailing have
been published but this is believed to be the first comprehensive detailing
manual. The aim of this book is to cover a wide range of topics, so simplifying
and reducing the work required to prepare structural drawings and details in
reinforced, prestressed, precast and composite concrete.
The book initially provides a list of extracts from relevant codes and current
practices. Where drawings are carried out using imperial units, a conversion
table is provided to change them into SI units.
This Part of BS 5628 has been prepared under the direction of Technical
Committee B/525, Building and Civil Engineering Structures. It supersedes
BS 5628-1:1978, which is withdrawn.
This edition of BS 5628-1 introduces technical changes, but it does not reflect a
full review or revision of the standard which will be undertaken in due course.
This Part uses limit state philosophy, in accordance with practice in other codes.
The 1948, 1964 and 1970 editions of CP 111 were in permissible stress terms, and
a section on reinforced masonry walls was included.
The rapid advances made in the science of botany within the last few years necessitate changes in the text books in use as well as in methods of teaching. Having, in his own experience as a teacher, felt the need of a book different from any now in use, the author has prepared the present volume with a hope that it may serve the purpose for which it is intended; viz., an introduction to the study of botany for use in high schools especially, but sufficiently comprehensive to serve also as a beginning book in most colleges. ...
• Algorithm efficiency is considered with only big problem sizes.
• We are not concerned with an exact measurement of an algorithm's efficiency.
• Terms that do not substantially change the function’s magnitude are eliminated.
Shape memory alloys have become in the past decades a well established research subject. However, the complex relations between properties and structure have created a continuously growing interest for a deeper insight all this time. The complexity of relationships between structure and properties is mostly related to the fact that strong ?multidimensional? interactions are taking place: from the early studies focusing on the thermal and/or mechanical induced phase transformations to the more recent findings on the magnetically induced structural changes.
The International Symposium on Nuclear Structure Physics (NP2001) was
held in Gottingen Germany, March 5-8, 2001. The aim of the Symposium
was to discuss recent achievements and new initiatives for research in nuclear
structure and to celebrate the career of Peter von Brentano.
