The use of fibre optic sensors in structural health monitoring has rapidly accelerated in recent years. By embedding fibre optic sensors in structures (e.g. buildings, bridges and pipelines) it is possible to obtain real time data on structural changes such as stress or strain. Engineers use monitoring data to detect deviations from a structure’s original design performance in order to optimise the operation, repair and maintenance of a structure over time.

Vertebrate metallothioneins are found to contain Zn(II) and variable
amounts of Cu(I),in vivo, and are believed to be important for d
control. To date, structural information is available for the Zn(II) and
Cd(II) forms, but not for the Cu(I) or mixed metal forms. Cu(I) binding to
metallothionein-1 has been investigated by circular dichroism, luminescence
H NMR using two synthetic fragments representing thea- and the
Human serum albumin (HSA) exists in both reduced and oxidized forms,
and the percentage of oxidized albumin increases in several diseases. How-ever, little is known regarding the pathophysiological significance of oxida-tion due to poor characterization of the precise structural and functional
properties of oxidized HSA.
We have investigated the molecular mechanisms that

monomeric and trimeric forms of seminal vesicle protein

The solution structure of the growth factor chimera mEGF/ TGFa44250 has been determined using an extended version of the DYANA procedure for calculating structures from NMR data. The backbone fold and preferred orientation of the domains of the chimera are similar to those found in previous studies of EGF structures, and several H-bonds used as input constraints in those studies were found independently in the chimera. This shows that the modiﬁed activity of the chimera does not result from a major structural change.
