  • The water-soluble crude polysaccharides obtained from the liquid culture broth of Cordyceps militaris by ethanol precipitation were fractionated by DEAE cellulose and Sepharose CL-6B column chromatography. This fractionation process resulted in three polysaccharide fractions that were termed CPSN Fr I, CPSN Fr II, and CPSN Fr III. Of the fractions, CPSN Fr II was able to upregulate the functional events mediated by activated macrophages, such as production of nitric oxide (NO) and expression of cytokines (IL-1 and TNF-).

  • Cordyceps gunnii (berk.) Berk (C. Gunnii) is well known as a Chinese rare caterpillar fungus and has similar pharmacological activity with C. sinensis. In this work, a high-molecular-weight polysaccharide (CPS) was isolated and purified from the mycelia of C. gunnii. The total sugar content of CPS was amounted to 92.84%. The result of HPLC indicated that CPS was a homogeneous polysaccharide. The estimated average molecular weight of CPS was 3.72 ×106 Da. The specific rotation of CPS was recorded [˛]25 D = +134.2◦.

  • Common engineering materials reach in many engineering applications such as automotive or aerospace; their limits and new developments are required to fulfill increasing demands on performance and characteristics. The properties of mate- rials can be increased, for example, by combining different materials to achieve better properties than a single constituent or by shaping the material or constituents in a specific structure. Many of these new materials reveal a much more complex behavior than traditional engineering materials due to their advanced structure or composition.

  • In Chapter 3 we have shown that the topological structures of kinematic chains can be represented by graphs. Several useful structural characteristics of graphs of kinematic chains were derived. In this chapter we show that graphs of kinematic chains can be enumerated systematically by using graph theory and combinatorial analysis. There are enormous graphs.

  • The following sections provide an overview of the technical and qualitative characteristics of a wide range of alternative fuels that can replace coal in cement kilns. These fuels include agricultural and non-agricultural biomass, chemical and hazardous wastes, petroleum-based wastes, and miscellaneous waste fuels. Each of these alternatives are described in detail, including a discussion of average substitution rates, energy and water content of the fuels, carbon dioxide emissions factors, and change in carbon emissions per ton1 of coal replacement.

  • The water soluble crude polysaccharide obtained from cultured mycelia of Cordyceps militaris (CPM) by hot water extraction followed by ethanol precipitation was fractionated by DEAE cellulose and Sepharose CL-6B column chromatography. This fractionation process resulted in four polysaccharide fractions that were termed CPMN Fr I, CPMN Fr II, CPMN Fr III, and CPMN Fr IV. Of these fractions, CPMN Fr III was able to upregulate the functional events mediated by activated macrophages, such as production of nitric oxide (NO) and expression of cytokines (IL-1b and TNF-a).

  • Structural analysis is the study of the nature of connection among the members of a mechanism and its mobility. It is concerned primarily with the fundamental relationships among the degrees of freedom, the number of links, the number of joints, and the type of joints used in a mechanism. It should be noted that structural analysis only deals with the general functional characteristics of a mechanism and not with the physical dimensions of the links. A thorough understanding of the structural characteristics is very helpful for enumeration of mechanisms. ...

Several useful structural characteristics of graphs of kinematic chains were derived. In this chapter we show that graphs of kinematic chains can be enumerated systematically by using graph theory and combinatorial analysis. There are enormous graphs. Obviously, not all of them are suitable for construction of kinematic chains.

  • Automotive Mechanisms In this chapter, we illustrate the usefulness of the systematic design methodology by enumerating a few automotive related mechanisms, including variable-stroke engine mechanisms, constant-velocity shaft couplings, and automatic transmission mechanisms. For each case, we first identify the functional requirements. Then, we translate some of the requirements into structural characteristics for the purpose of enumeration of the kinematic structures.

  • Typical algorithms and data structures textbooks are seven or eight hundred pages long, include chapters about software engineering and the programming language used in the book, and include appendices with yet more information about the programming language. Often they include lengthy case studies with tens of pages of specifications and code. Frequently they are hardcover books printed in two colors; sometimes they have sidebars with various sorts of supplementary material.

  • Many branchiopod crustaceans are endowed with extracellular, high-molecular-weight hemoglobins whose exact structural characteristics have remained a matter of conjecture. By using a broad spectrum of techniques, we provide precise and coherent information on the hemoglobin of one of the phylogenetically ‘oldest’ extant branchiopods, the tadpole shrimp Triops cancriformis.

An attractive and charming cave system is developed in Triasic limestones of the Dong Giao formation, created a wonderful sites for tourism. The exciting features of karst landforms in the Ninh Binh province are mogots. It is mogots make Ninh Binh province became inland HaLong Bay. In the study area most wide spread karst forms are: mogots, karst slope and peaks, karst remnant relief, karst relict relief, karst polje, karst dry valley and karst ponor and sinkholes.

  • Widely accepted resources for semantic parsing, such as PropBank and FrameNet, are not perfect as a semantic role labeling framework. Their semantic roles are not strictly defined; therefore, their meanings and semantic characteristics are unclear. In addition, it is presupposed that a single semantic role is assigned to each syntactic argument. This is not necessarily true when we consider internal structures of verb semantics. We propose a new framework for semantic role annotation which solves these problems by extending the theory of lexical conceptual structure (LCS). ...

  • Heterologous expression of the extracellular domains (ECDs) of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (AChR) subunits may give large amounts of proteins for studying the functional and spatial characteristics of their ligand-binding sites. The ECD of the a7 subunit of the homo-oligomeric a7 neuronal AChR appears to be a more suitable object than the ECDs of other heteromeric neuronal or muscle-type AChRs. The rat a7 ECDs (amino-acid residues 1–210) were recently expressed in Escherichia coli as fusion proteins with maltose-binding protein...

  • To elucidate the architectural principle of protein structure, we focused on sequestration from solvent, which is a common characteristic of folding and self-associative precipitation. Because protein solubility can be regarded as a basis for the potential ability to sequester from solvent, we assume that poorly soluble proteins tend not only to precipitate, but also to form solution structures.
