  • The book deals with several aspects of soil erosion, focusing on its connection with the agricultural world. Chapters' topics are various, ranging from irrigation practices to soil nutrient, land use changes or tillage methodologies. The book is subdivided into fourteen chapters, sorted in four sections, grouping different facets of the topic: introductive case studies, erosion management in vineyards, soil erosion issue in dry environments, and erosion control practices.

  • Soil erosion affects a large part of the Earth surface, and it represents one of the most relevant environmental problems worldwide. Intense land degradation processes that destroyed civilizations in the past are still going on at present. Accelerated soil erosion is one of the main soil threats, as the natural balance between soil formation and loss may be seriously compromised, leading to desertification and permanent loss of fertility and protective function. Soil erosion is not only related to agricultural activities and farming practices, but also to land management in general....

  • (BQ) Ebook Earth science: Changes To Earth's Surface includes what can cause a landslide? What makes magma rise inside a volcano? Why do earthquakes happen at faults? Erosion and deposition are two forces that change landforms. Explain in your own words what each force does. Include details from the book to support your answer.

  • Soils are aggregates of mineral particles, and together with air and/or water in the void spaces, they form three-phase systems. A large portion of the earth’s surface is covered by soils, and they are widely used as construction and foundation materials. Soil mechanics is the branch of engineering that deals with the engineering properties of soils and their behavior under stress.

  • Preconstruction planning should be used to sequence major grading activities to minimize the exposure time of graded or denuded areas. The erosion prevention and sediment control measures and/or plans shall be modified as necessary so that they are effective at all times throughout the course of the project. The Operator will be responsible for the implementation and execution of all storm water runoff controls.

  • (BQ) In this research, an iso duration current pulse generator has been proposed to achieve good surface finish. An experimental performance evaluation has been conducted with conventional transistor pulse train generator and modified iso current pulse generator by Taguchi L27 orthogonal array design. The machining characteristics have been evaluated for both the pulse generators. It is found the that modified iso duration current pulse generator has produced better surface quality with higher material removal rate than the conventional transistor pulse train generator.

  • Despite the tremendous progress that has been achieved in water pollution, almost 40% of the U.S. waters that have been assessed by states do not meet water quality goals. About 20,000 water bodies are impacted by siltation, nutrients, bacteria, oxygen depletion substances, metals, habitat alterations, pesticides, and toxic organic chemicals. With pollution from point sources being dramatically reduced, nonpoint source pollution is the major cause of most water that does not meet water quality goals.

  • Erythroderma (Table 54-2) Erythroderma is the term used when the majority of the skin surface is erythematous (red in color). There may be associated scale, erosions, or pustules as well as shedding of the hair and nails. Potential systemic manifestations include fever, chills, hypothermia, reactive lymphadenopathy, peripheral edema, hypoalbuminemia, and high-output cardiac failure. The major etiologies of erythroderma are (1) cutaneous diseases such as psoriasis and dermatitis (Table 54-3); (2) drugs; (3) systemic diseases, most commonly CTCL; and (4) idiopathic.

  • The sequence stratigraphy units of the Quaternary sediments at the continental shelf of Vietnam have been compared with the lithofacies and depositional cycles in relation to sea level changes. During the regression phases corresponding to the lowstand systems tract has being formed the alluvial lithofacies, shelf deltaic complex and shelf edge fans complex. The maximum regression remarked by erosion boundaries has corresponded with the lowstand sea level characterized by the slope fan turbiditte complex.

  • The Environment Agency is the lead organisation for providing flood and coastal risk management and warnings of flooding from main rivers and on the coast. We are responsible for the strategic overview for all sources of flooding. This means we will advise and bring together the planning and management of flood risk from rivers, the sea, groundwater, reservoirs and surface water. Many different public and private bodies are involved in managing flood and coastal erosion risk, each accountable for different aspects of risk management.

  • The action of the wind on dry loose soil surfaces leads to particles blowing into the air. Factors favouring the suspension of soil dust particles into the atmosphere are an exposed dry surface of fine soil and a high wind speed. In towns and cities, the areas of exposed soil, particularly in town centres, are rather small. However, there are considerable quantities of dusts on road and pavement surfaces which arise from ingress of soil on vehicle tyres and from the atmosphere, the erosion of the road surface itself and degradation of parts of the vehicle, especially the tyres.

  • The Spheres of the 1960s were all characterized by an imagery of pure form sundered, violated, and partially eaten away by internal erosion. Beneath the flawlessly polished or natural skins of the exterior surfaces, multiple motifs of recessed and repeated dentils, ribs, and hatching became for the artist “an expression of an interior movement.” While an artist in residence at Stanford University, Pomodoro evolved the first of his new spheres, the Rotani or Rotors, of which the Putnam Memorial Collection has one of the earliest examples.

  • Bullous Pemphigoid Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is a polymorphic autoimmune subepidermal blistering disease usually seen in the elderly. Initial lesions may consist of urticarial plaques; most patients eventually display tense blisters on either normalappearing or erythematous skin (Fig. 55-2). The lesions are usually distributed over the lower abdomen, groin, and flexor surface of the extremities; oral mucosal lesions are found in some patients. Pruritus may be nonexistent or severe.

  • Gate valves are available with a variety of disks. Classification of gate valves is usually made by the type disk used: solid wedge, flexible wedge, split wedge, or parallel disk. Solid wedges, flexible wedges, and split wedges are used in valves having inclined seats. Parallel disks are used in valves having parallel seats. Regardless of the style of wedge or disk used, the disk is usually replaceable.

  • (BQ) Machining speed and surface integrity continue to be issues of focus in current wire EDM research. In this light, the proof-of-concept of a hybrid wire EDM process that utilizes a wire embedded with electrically non-conducting abrasives is presented. Material removal in this novel process is realized through electrical erosion that is augmented by two-body abrasion. This is shown to bring about a significant improvement in the removal rate and generate surfaces with minimal recast material, in comparison to an equivalent wire EDM process.
