Given the virtual absence of formal channels for care and support of the older population, older
Cambodians are dependent largely on their families, and particularly their adult children, for any
assistance needed. Table 7 indicates the number of living children of the current generation of elderly
Cambodians. Although many elderly Cambodians lost children during the tumultuous history of the last
several decades, sustained high fertility has resulted in substantial numbers of children who still survive.
Stability Bonds must not lead to a reduction in budgetary discipline among euro-area
Member States. A notable feature of the period since the launch of the euro has been
inconsistency in market discipline of budgetary policy in the participating Member States.
The high degree of convergence in euro-area bond yields during the first decade of the euro
was not, in retrospect, justified by the budgetary performance of the Member States. The
correction since 2009 has been abrupt, with possibly some degree of overshooting.
The genome data of bacteriumXylella fastidiosastrain 9a5c has identified
severalorfsrelated to its phytopathogenic adaptation and survival. Among
these genes, the surEcodifies a survival protein E (XfSurE) whose function
is not so well understood, but functional assays in Escherichia colirevealed
nucleotidase and exopolyphosphate activity.
The story is a bit different with the expenditure-driven adjustments. In five of the ten adjustments
for which there is data, the output gap was more than one percentage point of GDP at the
beginning of the adjustment. In four of these five cases the gap was more than two percentage
points of GDP, as shown in Figure 5. These four cases were Finland (1996-2000), Netherlands
(1996), Norway (1994-95), and Sweden (1994-98). However, in none of these cases was an economy
as far below its potential as the United States economy in 2010. The biggest output gap among this...
Financial market infrastructures (FMIs) that facilitate the clearing, settlement, and
recording of monetary and other financial transactions can strengthen the markets they serve
and play a critical role in fostering financial stability. However, if not properly managed, they
can pose significant risks to the financial system and be a potential source of contagion,
particularly in periods of market stress. Although FMIs performed well during the recent
financial crisis, events highlighted important lessons for effective risk management.
I, the undersigned Participant in the Event, also indemnify and will keep indemnified the Council
and its officers against all liability for death, injury, loss or damage to any person or the property of
any person howsoever caused arising out of my participation in the Event, or arising from the
reasonable directions given by the Council Officer during the Event.
We know the interventions that can save most women’s lives. If every
woman had access to essential maternal care, 74% of maternal deaths could
be prevented4. If all women had access to self–controlled means of HIV/
AIDS protection and were in a position within society to use these methods,
millions of HIV/AIDS deaths could be prevented. Thus, we do not so much
need new technology, as we need to ensure universal access, utilization and equity.
But ensuring universal access, utilization and equity means that our health
services cannot continue to function as “business as usual.
While many HIV-infected individuals do not wish to have children, others desire children despite their
infected status. The desire and intent to have children among HIV-infected individuals may increase
because of improved quality of life and survival following commencement of anti-retroviral treatment. In
developing countries such as South Africa, where the largest number of people living with HIV/AIDS
worldwide reside, specific government reproductive health policy and service provision for HIV-infected
individuals is underdeveloped.
Because there is no clear definition of the asthma
phenotype, researchers studying the development of this
complex disease turn to characteristics that can be
measured objectively, such as atopy (manifested as the
presence of positive skin-prick tests or the clinical
response to common environmental allergens), airway
hyperresponsiveness (the tendency of airways to narrow
excessively in response to triggers that have little or no
effect in normal individuals), and other measures of
Motivated by the adverse effects of the financial crisis, in 2010 the Commission Directorate
General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion and the EIB made each available EUR
100m to the benefit of micro-enterprises and self-employment, with a particular emphasis on
social inclusion and groups with limited access to the traditional banking system.
With regard to the interest rate environment, we expect that the ECB will
continue to raise key rates in the near future. There are several reasons why the
ECB will tighten policy somewhat. One is that inflation has remained above
the target for a long time, albeit moderately, and in the recent survey reported
by the ECB inflation forecasts were raised slightly compared to the previous
one. Also, the monetary overhang, which the ECB interprets as one leading
indicator for future inflation, increased further due to persistently high money
Eco-effi ciency basically means “doing more with
less”. It is a management philosophy that encourages
municipalities, communities and businesses to seek out
environmental improvements that generate parallel
economic benefi ts.
Social inclusiveness refers to treating all people in a city
equally in their access to work and services, such as
public transport and health care.
Projects always involve a finite amount of uncertainty (risk) that may lead to problems
and surprises during the project. Dealing with surprises requires more time, energy, and
money than originally planned. Risk management can help reduce the likelihood and
affects of risks. Risk management is important as it helps the team accomplish the project
with as little trouble as possible.
As a professional scientist, engineer, or project manager, you will be required to help get
the job done. Excuses (whether real or imaginary) generally don't buy any sympathy.
Having already forged relationships with numerous Romanian celebrities for other
accounts, Roberts was able to convince a number of them to join forces and write a
song on the subject of HIV/AIDS. The song quickly became a national hit.
Simultaneously, Roberts and Holscher sent a corps of peer educators dubbed the “Love
Police” onto the beaches of the Black Sea to approach young people and issue fake
“citations” to those not carrying condoms. The program created buzz and substantially
decreased stigma and fear around condom use.
Apple products are easy to use because they eliminate “clutter.” This same design philosophy applied to every Steve Jobs
presentation. There were no bullet points in his presentations. Instead, Jobs relied on photographs and images. Where the
average PowerPoint slide has 40 words, it was difficult to find seven words on 10 of Jobs’ slides. This technique is called “Picture
Superiority” — information is more effectively recalled when text and images are combined.
There are likely several reasons for the long-termluminance decrease. First, analog film
and its digital successor have increased their dynamic range, allowing for darker darks in a
given image. Second, and also due to filmstock, studio-era films needed to be shot under
very bright lights, whereas for contemporary films that is no longer necessary (Salt 2009).
In commemoration of Mother’s Day,
Save the Children is publishing its twelfth
annual State of the World’s Mothers report.
We have assembled our Champions for
Children – leading voices from academia,
politics, religion, business and the arts – to
celebrate the great progress the world
has made in recent decades to reduce
deaths among children under age 5. These
distinguished essayists explore the many
reasons why the united States, as a nation,
must continue to invest in lifesaving maternal
and child health programs. u.S.
It is scarcely to be expected that banks operating in dif-
ferent regions, serving different classes of customers and fol-
lowing different policies, would have uniform experience.
Therefore, for each of the factors to be analyzed, we have
supplemented the composite analysis for all banks by an in-
dividual analysis for each bank that submitted a sufficiently
large sample. These individual analyses, which are presented
in Appendix B, indicate the degree of variation among banks
and the extent to which the average experience of all banks
typifies theexperience of any one bank.
Throughout Europe, savings banks share common values, such as local ties, a positive attitude
to all customers not excluding certain categories of clients, together with a socially responsi-
ble behaviour. Savings banks therefore embody a “stakeholder” model, seeking to bring value
and return to the whole community of stakeholders, which surround them (investors, suppli-
ers, customers, employees and the local community in which they operate).
Austro-Hungarian Empire, these Central European countries form a compact
group with strong cultural and historical links, except for the fact that Austria does
not share a communist history as a Soviet satellite like the other four do. As a
result, there are important similarities in consumption habits and needs,
about the role of money, and in the ultimate behavior of bank clients in relation to
